Steele Jantz, 6'3", 220

Supposedly has a big arm and touch and accuracy. Does anyone here know anything about him?

Yeah brah.

We all know a lot about him.

I can't count the number of hours I've spent scouting QB for the Iowa State team.

Paid him $200,000 to play for ISU. Smart money has the Clones in the NC game next year. Either that, or they are 5-7.

#3 juco baby! He's still pretty raw though. Got hurt as a starter his senior year and started last year leading his team to a championship. Was offered scholarships as a safety butwanted to play QB.

The talent is there though. Ran a similar offense at his juco also.

I just think it's strange Ed Reed's brother disappears one day and then this guy shows up the next.

I almost stopped the video early when he threw that first pass off his back foot. That should not have been part of his highlight video.

I almost wouldn't want a QB with Reed as last name because of what it means in Farsi.

Is he Persian or something? Why is Frankie interested in an ISU QB?

Meet Football Newcomer Steele Jantz

AMES, Iowa – The long and winding road that brought Steele Jantz from California to Hawaii, back to California and then now to Iowa State, has had its highs and lows. The initial journey complete, the junior college quarterback has set his sights on getting started with school and getting to know his teammates.

“I liked the serious nature of the school here,” Jantz said. “There is a professional atmosphere I noticed on my visit. I was impressed by that because I am here to go to school, not just play football.”

The Jantz family moved before Jantz’s sophomore year of high school from Agoura Hills in Los Angeles County to Nevada, a quaint town of 3,000 with historic gold rush import 60 miles northeast of Sacramento in the foothills of the Tahoe National Forest.

At Nevada Union High School he played linebacker and wide receiver as the backup quarterback his junior season. The starting quarterback as a senior, he missed the first game and then suffered a season-ending injury in the third game of the season. The quarterback position was left to his younger brother Broughan.

“I had a stress fracture and really couldn’t do much but then came the knee injury and that ended the season for good,” Jantz said. “I didn’t have any scholarships offers anywhere.”

Jantz then elected to attend the University of Hawaii, arriving in January of 2008. He graduated early from Nevada Union and cast his lot in Honolulu. He made a cold call on the Hawaii football office. The coaching staff liked his size and invited him to participate in summer workouts.

“I stuck with it and ended up quarterbacking the scout team that fall, Jantz said. “It was invaluable experience working against Division I guys.”
Needing a place to play and not to languish, he went to the City College of San Francisco. He was the backup as a freshman. Then in 2010, it finally was Jantz’s time.

Jantz threw for 3,075 yards and 23 touchdowns while leading CCSF to an 11-1 record in CCCAA play. Jantz also rushed for 601 yards and 14 touchdowns, leading his school to the California State community college title game.

Before the season had progressed to its final stages, Jantz had caught the eye of the Iowa State coaching staff.

“He is an accurate passer and he is tough,” Iowa State offensive coordinator Tom Herman said. “He took some pretty good licks and kept playing. He could make plays with his feet. He was not a statue out there.”

Cyclone head coach Paul Rhoads and Herman were in the crowd Nov. 27 as Steele ran for four touchdowns and threw a 20-yard TD pass as his Rams crushed Fresno City College, 52-15, to claim the Northern California Football Association title.

“He played with poise,” Herman said. “That caught our eye.”

The spring semester began Monday. There will be intense competition for the starting quarterback job between Jantz, junior Jerome Tiller and sophomore James Capello among others. The Cyclones open the season Sept. 3 against Northern Iowa.

The year he was the backup at his Juco, Jeremiah Masoli who played for Oregon and now Mississippi? was the guy who was starting. From what I hear from people at that college is hes better than Jeremiah was.

I heard Jantz favorite WR at his Juco also just committed, along with a three star WR yesterday that looks pretty damn good.

New Iowa State QB Steele Jantz hooking up with New Iowa State WR Aaron Horne, over and over and over again for big plays.

Whoever he is...barring injury, he will have a stud center snappin' that ball to him, and keeping the defending NT and DTs (even LBs) off his azz. He's smart, he's athletic, and he's turning into a physical beast. Last time I saw him, he was lean, quick and probably topping 6' 4" 270 lbs. Best part...he'll be a redshirt freshman, who if he doesn't start next year....will for 2012-2014.

He's was a three year starter at a large public hight school, and IIRC an all-confernce, all-state for at least 2 of his three years as a starter. He's a keeper. :toast:

I'm more excited about the WR that committed a few days ago... and also the #7 ranked multi-purpose back who is a Percy Harvin type guy... There were a few big time play maker prospects that committed last year also.

Should be an interesting new few years now that Rhoads and Herman are getting their own players on offense.

I always have said that ISU will never amount to a reliably good program unless a young coach becomes successful and is not tempted to jump to other schools. I am cautiously optimistic that it may be finally happening.

The same thing maybe in basketball too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on both hands.

Paul and Fredare both here for the long haul. I'd be more worried about Fred getting another NBA job than Paul leaving at all... Pitt tried contacting him about the HC job and he turned it down right away.
