Road to repeat in the AFC West (http://www.kansascity.com/2011/01/11/2578064/road-to-repeat-in-the-afc-west.html)

The Chiefs’ 2011 schedule presents plenty of stumbling blocks to another division title.

Division teams
(will play home and away)

•Denver (4-12)

•Oakland (8-8)

•San Diego (9-7)

The skinny: The Chiefs were 2-4 in the division in 2010 and were outscored 154-90. They were blown out at Denver (49-29) and San Diego (31-0) and at home against Oakland (31-10) in the season finale, their

second loss to the Raiders.

Playoff teams
•at Chicago (11-5)

•Green Bay (10-6)

•at Indianapolis (10-6)

•at New England (14-2)

•at New York Jets (11-5)

•Pittsburgh (12-4)

The skinny: The Chiefs beat only one playoff team in 2010, Seattle, which finished the regular season 7-9. In 2010, the Chiefs lost 19-9 at Indianapolis but did not play the other five.

OTHER OPPONENTS
•Buffalo (4-12)

•at Detroit (6-10)

•Miami (7-9)

•Minnesota (6-10)

The skinny:The Chiefs needed all 15 minutes of overtime to beat the Bills 13-10 this season and did not play the other three teams. KC has a winning overall record against the Vikings and Lions but a losing record against the Dolphins.

The two true keys for any team is to go over .500 at home and over .500 in the division... do that and you're likely playoff bound. Granted, didn't work for the Raiders, but most years the team should be good.

The Broncos will be under a new head coach and all indications from Elway indicate he'll hire a proven loser

The Chargers lose their D coordinator that established a #1 Defense + they still have Norv. Gates career IMO is done with the foot injury he has.

Not worried. I like our schedule . If we don't finish 1st in the division then we don't deserve another shot in the playoffs anyway. To be the best you have to beat the best . Right.

This schedule is just what we need, Mr. H5N1. This team needs to learn how to play with the big boys ... and win a few. Sometimes, you have to look danger right in the face and tell danger it's a big poopy-head.

Did George Washington put on a life jacket when he crossed the Delaware? Did Nikola Tesla wear rubber boots? Did Betty Clamstrope let the aliens probe her without a struggle? No. No, they didn't.

Depends on who their QB is. If Stafford yet again fractures his porcelain bone structure, then I'm not too worried about going to Detroit.

I predicted 7-9 this year and that turned out to be totally f'ing wrong...

So why not shoot for 11-5 and better...

Pieces are falling into to place with this team... A good FA signing period and draft and this team could get down right scary....

Shaun Hill had no problem leading that offense. There's no way that Detroit doesn't bring him back. If Detroit is smart they'll go out and fix that offensive line.

We may not win 11, but you're right about the FA deal. A few more pieces could make a big difference.

The thing is that, as most people realize, much depends upon the quarterback situation. We won't be consistent unless or until we figure that part out.

Exactly... plus the AFCE gets the AFCW and NFCE, that adds in KC, NYG, PHI... for the Bills.

Panthers get NFCN and AFCS - it's just a bit ugly for these teams because of the rotation.

If we want to take the next step forward, Clark will need to finally open the checkbook and fill some holes through free agency.

The draft is obviously needed to build a core, but we can't count on filling every need with rookies.

A ton depends on how the schedule falls. In other words--when San Diego plays it's toughest games. If they play them in the back half of the season, they're cooked because they'll do their choke routine, regardless of the opponent for the first half of the year and lose just enough at the back end of the year to make a repeat of this year. At that point, the AFC west goes to the Chiefs or Raiders in all probability.

Due to the similar schedules, I like our chances...but there's no question we have to at least beat two division opponents on the road to make it easier on ourselves in addition to winning out at home within our division.

I admire your optimism, but this team didnt exactly leave the season on a high note. We have several off season issues that we better address. We need another Pass rusher, we need another receiver, a new RT and another LB. Not to mention we dont know who is going to be our OC.

We have a tuff as fuck schedule nxt season! If we make the playoffs the second time around, it will be because we earned it! We will also be a battle tested team! Hopefully thats the case.
