Carson Palmer will ask the Cincinnati Bengals to trade him and will contemplate retirement if he does not get his wish, according to several sources.

Palmer, the No. 1 overall pick by the Bengals in 2003, was unavailable for comment as he and his wife Shaelynn were awaiting the birth of their third child.

A Bengals spokesman had no comment. The team has Palmer under contract through 2014.

Palmer has become the object of fan frustration in the past two years and sources said he has grown frustrated with the team's inconsistencies. The Bengals finished 4-12 in 2010.

Sources familiar with Palmer's plan and mindset said he is financially secure for the rest of his life and willing to follow through and retire.

Several teams will be in the market for quarterbacks this offseason. Seattle will have an opening at quarterback if the Seahawks can't re-sign Matt Hasselbeck. Palmer won the Heisman Trophy for now-Seahawks coach Pete Carroll at USC in 2002. San Francisco, where his wife was raised, and Arizona could also be options.

Palmer suffered a major knee injury in a first-round playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of the 2005 season. He also suffered an elbow injury in 2008 and considered Tommy John surgery before choosing to rehab without having the operation.

:hmmm: Do you think a team could get him for a 3rd round pick?

I'm sure he does not want to be a back up, if you were thinking for your team.

Palmer has been inbetween a rock (Ochocinco) and a hard place (Cincinnati).

I think he'll be a good pickup for any team looking for a QB (Seattle, 49ers, Tennessee, Vikings, etc...)

He's looked awful at worst & inconsistent at best for the last year +, injury & playing for the bungles has taken its toll.

Maybe his injuries are something he can work through, like Kurt Warner struggling to adapt to his injured hand grip issues for a year or so.

Good for him, he wants outta that mess.

He knows it's his only chance to revive his career if that's even possible.

Arizona would be interesting but they lack talent outside of WR.

That'd be a good landing spot for him, Whisenhunt is a better coach than AZ looked this year IMO, he can get it turned around & even a struggling Palmer is leaps beyond anyone on their roster.

There seems to be a strange pattern. Cassel. Leinart. Palmer. Sanchez. John David Booty. I'm sure I forgot a couple.... But they all seem to have the same problem.

Carson Palmer is apparently determined to leave Cincinnati.

Palmer, who has demanded the Bengals trade him, told a confidant he "will never set foot in Paul Brown Stadium again," WCPO-TV in Cincinnati reported Tuesday.

Bengals owner Mike Brown said in January that he will not trade Palmer because the quarterback is crucial to the team's plans.

Several sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen in January that Palmer will contemplate retirement if the Bengals do not trade him.

According to Tuesday's report, Palmer said "I have $80 million in the bank. I don't have to play football for money. I'll play it for the love of the game but that would have to be elsewhere. I'm prepared to live my life."

Palmer hasn't talked to the media since making his trade request. A text message seeking comment wasn't returned. Agent David Dunn released a statement saying that "because of the lack of success that Carson and the Bengals have experienced together, Carson strongly feels that a separation between him and the Bengals would be in the best interest of both parties."

Palmer was the franchise's building block when it made him the first overall pick in 2003, Marvin Lewis' first season as coach. He led the Bengals to the playoffs in 2005 and 2009 -- their only winning records in the past 20 years -- and rebounded from severe knee and elbow injuries along the way.

Having an USC Quarterback s liking having a Condom in your wallet, it may make you feel comfortable but won't necessarily help you score.
