Norway is the only country where one can still buy a bottled version of this soft drink. [1]. Surge was widely associated with the extreme sports lifestyle, with television commercials similar to those currently used by Mountain Dew. Expired cans and bottles of Surge now sell on eBay for high dollar amounts, including a reported $160.08 for a 12-pack sold in April 2005.[2]

Urge was originally available in Norway in 0.5L and 1.5L bottles. The 1.5L bottles were discontinued in 1999, but were reintroduced to the Norwegian market on September 1, 2008, in part due to a consumer campaign on Facebook.

I remember a time when Hostess or whoever sold a fruit pie that was green inside and was named "Ooze" for the TMNT movie. That was my favorite as a child.

edit:

I guess this is what it was:

Hostess Ninja Turtles Pudding Pies: One of the rarest TMNT food products was made by Hostess in 1990; they were the "Hostess Pudding Pie" with a green sugar crust, and "Vanilla Puddin' Power" inside. The first run included a sticker of one of the turtles or a group shot, then in '91 with the release of the second film, the pies included a "TMNT 2 trading card". Alternatively, a version was released with regular crust and green-dyed "Ooze" filling.

Heh,

I was mostly hoping for discussion on Arrowhead's past...

but now it appears this should be in the nostalgia thread. Mods, feel free to move.

Question #3 in SodaFinders.com's FAQ

Can you get Surge? I loved that stuff!

A lot of people did!

Surge was released in 1997 by Coca-Cola. It was primarily Mello Yello with a little more caffeine and orange juice. The brand's launch was pushed out by lots of screaming and yelling in the advertisements. Teenagers drank it down by the gallon. Teenagers, though, don't make a lot of money, and coke decided it was time to retire the drink.

By the end of 2002, most markets were selling Mello Yello in its place.

By 2003, most markets didn't have Mello Yello anymore either.

Mt. Dew trumphs it in most of the United States and coke decided it was not worth competing against. Mello Yello cannot be found in the Northeast. This is the same reason why you cannot buy Pibb Xtra in most of the northeast as well. It is only in fountain, and even that is limited as most national chains have fountain licensing for Dr. Pepper, even in coke shops.

In 2005, Coke released a new beverage called Vault. Since then, diet and "code red" variants have emerged. It has been reported that the formula for Vault is almost identical to Surge's, however, any Surge fanatic will tell you they aren't even close.

My last can of surge left my hands in 2003.

Not exactly. I worked for Coca Cola when Surge first came out. Vault doesn't have the same formula. With Surge they had too much acid or a chemical in it that would make it leak from the cans. IIRC. It was a product disaster for Coca Cola. I liked Surge and it was fun being apart of history at the time for Coke to come out with that product.
