Could Herschel Walker put an NFL uniform on again?

The 48-year-old said not to discount the possibility.

Walker played in the NFL from 1986-1997. He has since transformed into an MMA fighter, and is set for a bout on Saturday.

On Monday, he said he hasn't ruled out putting his renewed fitness -- for which he credits his MMA training -- to use on the football field.

"I know I can play," Walker said, via AOL FanHouse. "If I continue to stay in the shape I'm in now, I know I can play when I'm 50. Right now, if you asked if I can play today, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind I can play football today, that I can help out a team today.

"I 100% guarantee you I can help a football team out."

Walker was a Pro Bowl running back in 1987 and 1988, his best year when he rushed for 1,514 yards.

He said he'd like to play football in Atlanta, close to his home.

"I still say I may try out for football again and show people I can do that," Walker said, "because I want to be the George Foreman of football and come back and do it one more time."

This is the kind of shape is he in now

Maybe.

Anyway, what's he want to do?

I thought about laughing, but then I realized he is a bad mother fucker, and in freakish shape. Besides, if one of his personalities quits on you, you have a shit load of others to go with.

Are you people fucking kidding me? When you're that age you get hurt more easily, and it takes longer to recover. How fast he is or how good of shape he is in doesn't matter, he's still going to get hit.

He's in phenominal shape right now.

And I can't think of any better way for a 48-year old to get OUT of shape quicker than a year of professional football.

From the 1:09 to 1:25 mark. This is in 1996, when he was 14 years younger. And a little fucking white kicker did it. Imagine now.

Pretty much this. I'd give him about a 1% chance of actually being able to make an NFL squad and be reasonably productive, but it'd be fun to watch him try.

a 48 year old body is still a 48 year old body. No team will truly give him a shot.

01-25-2011, 06:24 AM
dude is 48 and you are talking about him playing a whole season as the starting running back? hell no he couldn't do it.

but could he make a football team and see some limited action as a change up type back and make a difference until he gets hurt? I wouldn't bet against him

If he thinks he can still compete why did he retire.

JD10367
01-25-2011, 09:12 AM
Being muscular, even at a higher age than normal, does not make you a football player. There have been plenty of Tarzans who played like Jane. You also need speed (which he lost a decade and a half ago), determination (which he obviously lost or he'd still be playing), and recuperative abilities (which at his age will be minimal without help from Rodney Harrison's drug dea... er, I mean, "online friends").

Flapping your lips generates attention. End of story. He accomplished his mission: informing the sports world that he's not dead. Move along, Herschel, nothing to see here.

Good on him, but he's a lunatic if he thinks he can still take the beating of the NFL.

Why not... you're telling me that a contending team couldn't find a spot for him in a rotation? If all the stories are true about his speed, etc... hell, go for it.
