Pelini: Sanders has resigned
Posted by: Steve Sipple at 3:15PM CST on February 3, 2011

Nebraska coach Bo Pelini just issued the following statement regarding secondary coach Marvin Sanders:

“Marvin Sanders has resigned his position on our coaching staff for personal and family reasons. Marvin has decided the most important thing for him at this time is to take a break from coaching and spend more time with his family.

“Marvin is an excellent football coach, and he has been a key part of our defensive success here at Nebraska. The success of his secondary on the field speaks for itself, and he has a great rapport with his players and other members of the staff.

“I am working toward finding a replacement for Coach Sanders, and we will have an announcement on that once the University hiring process is completed.”

Els emerges as LB coach candidate
Posted by: Steve Sipple at 9:29AM CST on February 3, 2011

Ross Els is a candidate to become Nebraska's linebackers coach, the Journal Star has learned.

Els, who just completed his sixth year as Ohio's linebackers coach, is set to meet with Husker head coach Bo Pelini today in Lincoln, a source close to Els said.

Nebraska defensive coordinator Carl Pelini worked with Els for three seasons (2005-07) at Ohio.

Els, a Lincoln native, also spent the past four years as Ohio's special teams coordinator.

Reached Wednesday, Ohio head coach Frank Solich declined comment.

Carl Pelini's familiarity with Els might be appealing to the Huskers in light of the news Wednesday that Indiana assistant coach Corey Raymond is set to become NU's secondary coach. Raymond has never coached previously with Carl Pelini.

Notable absences at recruiting dinner
Posted by: Steve Sipple at 7:15PM CST on February 2, 2011

Three notable absences from the Husker recruiting dinner at the Holiday Inn Centre in Omaha, according to one dinner attendee:

Ted Gilmore, Shawn Watson and Marvin Sanders.

I think it's becoming clear what to make of that.

By the way, Bo Pelini isn't there, either.

Rest of Huskers' full-time staff is in attendance.

Also to Dan Bebee and the Big XII offices for favoring Texas YET AGAIN when assigning Rivals star rankings to their players and ours. I know they have little to do with this, but I feel they need to take responsibility and own up to the situation.

You are mistaken, good sir. While obviously you root for a pitiful (non)rival of Nebraska, and thus jealous of our success, I feel that these recruiting updates are beneficial information to the rest of this community.

You see, Bo Pelini only recruits NFL caliber players who are ready for the draft. In fact, if there were no age limit, I feel these players would be first day picks.

My thoughts on Mizzou from the other thread:

Mizzou's class is underwhelming on the surface.

However, Brothers is probably the best LB recruit they've ever gotten. Despite his 3* Rivals rating, he had 14 offers. He was the Oklahoma player of the year (don't know at what level).

Shane Ray may end up being a very good end. He picked Mizzou over Notre Dame, but he has ideal size and length to man either end position.

If Leftwich can run routes at all he'll be a gamebreaker, and the fastest Tiger we've had in Pinkel's tenure. Yes, faster than JMac.

Richardson is still the same guy who was the #5 recruit in the country.

Berkstresser would have been a 4* had he not committed so early.

I can't say I'm super impressed with any of their OL signings.

My thoughts on Mizzou from the other thread:

Fortunately, Mizzou isn't in a position that they needed a huge class. We needed a few complimentary pieces, and we seem to have them.
