The two sides continue to work together with the hope of reaching a long-term agreement.
The Kansas City Chiefs announced Wednesday that the club has designated OLB Tamba Hali as its franchise player.

"Tamba is a key contributor to our football team, and we have a tremendous amount of respect for him both personally and professionally," General Manager Scott Pioli said. "We want Tamba to remain a member of the Chiefs, and we will continue to work together with the hope of reaching a long-term agreement."

Well that was expected. Hope Scott can get a long term contract done fairly quickly. I'm sure we won't see anything done till after the new CBA though.

One of the most redeeming qualities of Pioli thus far is that he doesn't alienate players because of contract situations.

The quotation in the OP is the absolute perfect thing to say. "We love Tamba. He's a great person, great player, blah, blah, end." Nothing more. Perfect.

Meh.

Jared quietly had a good year...

and we got good (enough) return on the Allen trade (in Jamaal alone)...

It could be grammatically correct if, in fact, Hali is somebody's "it."

Jared did not quietly have a good year.

He had 1 sack through the first 7 games, and picked up over a 1/4 of his sacks in two games. He also only had 1 forced fumble, the lowest since his rookie season (when he had ZERO).

He quietly had a bad season for a guy making his kind of money.

I think Tambas sack numbers went up considerably due to our improved secondary play. In 2009 it seemed Hali was getting to the QB a tad too late after the ball was released. The improved secondary was able to hold the WRs a little bit longer and Tamba became a beast. That being said Tamba is the type of player who gives it 100% on every down and has to be accounted for on every play.

I had a feeling JA would be the type of player to slack off once he got his big pay day.

I doubt either of us paid that much attention to Vikings games...

so I refuse to get into any sort of a debate...

looking at his numbers...he started slowly, sure...but then from weeks 9-17 he failed to record a sack in a game only once (and one other game he only had 0.5 sacks)...

60 tackles, 11 sacks...

he didn't have a year like Hali but it's not like he didn't play, sat on the bench, or was a waste of a roster spot...

he still earned his money IMO

(but like I said, I doubt either of us watched that many Vikings games closely enough to have opinions that matter)

Hootie
02-16-2011, 03:03 PM
and I know as TheGuardian you'll want to continue to argue and bring up Brett Favre and say you watched 80% of their games and every snap so you win...Allen is garbage and Hali is way better even though they are playing in different systems.

Good victory.

If you notice, I took money into account. He had an "ok" half a season, and a completely shitty first half of a season. That's not quietly a good season.

Now just imagine if the Chiefs had a legit NT capable of collapsing the pocket and making opposing QBs run for their lives....right into the hands of Tamba.

Or see Tamba and throw the ball right into the hands of our soon-to-be-dominant secondary.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how good those guys can be once they hit their prime and have another year or so to gel together. It was a lot of fun growing up on the Chiefs watching Lewis/Ross/Cherry/Burruss.

If reports are true that both parties aren't even close to a deal, don't be surprised that Hali might be looking elsewhere for a better payday.

You could not be more clueless if your mentor was Inspector Clouseau.

When the CBA expires, no one is going to be signing anywhere.

All league business will come to a screeching halt.

When they reach an agreement, the Chiefs will simply retag him.

Since I know you're the dumbest mother fucker on the planet, I'll fill you in on something. The tag isn't going anywhere. There's no way the owners agree to give that up. They'll make a concession elsewhere to keep that.

Are you ever right?

The agent for OLB Tamba Hali expressed no displeasure with his client's franchise tag from the Chiefs.

"Tamba would like to retire with the Chiefs," the agent said. "This is a procedural maneuver by the Chiefs to retain his rights. It has nothing to do with us getting a long-term deal done, which is the goal of both us and the Chiefs." Hali has missed just one game in five years, racking up 41.5 sacks and 18 forced fumbles in 79 career regular season appearances.

Tamba must really want to stay here. Usually you don't hear about players wanting to retire with a team until they're in their 30s and hitting their decline.

Wow Tamba is quickly becoming my favorite Chief. He was fairly dominant this year pretty much on his own. I can't imagine if you give him a stud NT to collapse the pocket, some rush help on the opposite side, and another year for our secondary to gel.
