Can somebody give me a bit off backround info on this Tom Cash/Norman Einstein character?

He sent me a few pms a couple months back claiming he was a good guy and that he was misunderstood due to circumstance or some crap like that and kept asking me personal questions which I decided to ignore for the most part.

Forgive me if his douchiness has been on display in this thread, but I dont have the time to spend on reading 650 posts to find out.

While I disagree with some of the guys in this "competition" and if they should be involved in it in the first place...I really haven't read a lot of douchey stuff from Norman Einstein to develop a hatred for the guy.

What has he specifically done in the past to warrant DOTY?.

Based on my observation, Tom Cash does alright as long as people don't know who he is. Once they figure out that he's Tom Cash the pile-ons start and he doesn't handle it well. He's also very argumentative (as some of us are) and religious in a tell-you-you're-going-to-hell way. He doesn't have a sense of humor that works with anyone else so that compounds the problem.* He's often oblivious to sarcasm.

Oh, and he's got a distinctive style so, unfortunately, he's always discovered and the cycle repeats.

A brief history of Tom:

Tom has been here for years - he may have been one of the founding members. Tom was in the Navy, and there was a time when I got along with him. He was always highly opinionated and a bit of a jerk, but at first, it wasn't that bad. Then he had a major blow-up with Phobia, which resulted in his getting banned. Tom came back under a new login, eventually revealed his true identity, and was banned again. And again. And again and again. Most people who have been banned and come back realize that they must change their dickish behavior, but Tom has never figured that part out. Each time he comes back, his general attitude is worse than the time before. He is a hardcore right wing extremist, and other than other extreme right wingers, he can't get along with anybody. DaFace put him on universal ignore for a few months, but it was lifted. I assume he'll eventually get himself banned again, and come back again. I don't know why his behavior is tolerated, but it is.

Believe me, this jackass has bought and paid for every bit of scorn that is heaped upon him.

And in addition to this, he's definitely a bit off his rocker. Me and him have been going around and around for years, yet out of the blue, one day he sent me a facebook friend request, acting like we were long lost friends. Bizarre.

Tom is a lifelong navy guy so I presume he's always looking for his next medal or praise on his fitrep. Unfortunately, real life doesn't work like that and when nobody pats him on the back he doesn't get along well with others. Strangely though, like Tim, I got a facebook request from him once. Okay. He also peacefully coexisted on another site I run for well over a year. Then he got mad about a joke I made about him on this site so he left. I've never understood the guy. He ran his own son off this site with his bizaar behavior. I'm kinda surprised he's winning this though. I haven't seen him post in ages.

This conversation brings to mind a mystery I've never really understood and, so far, failed to figure out. Why do people who obviously dislike pretty much everyone on this site and are, in turn, generally despised, continue to post here ... even to go so far as to re-join under a new name after being banned?

I really don't understand that kind of person. Typically, when a person doesn't get along with the people he or she finds themselves with, they start hanging out with other people.

I think Tom mainly suffers from old NCO disease. He mistook the fact that people agreed with him and kissed his ass for true respect, not realizing that it just came with the anchors on his collar. That attitude doesn't transfer well into cyberspace. He's made it clear over the years that he'd like to have everything done to me from captain's mast to keel-hauling, but since my obligation to feign respect for or be controlled by empty uniform pricks like him ended years ago, that's not happening.

When classed as miserable, a member suffers ;

1. Slow response (time delay) on every page (20 to 60 seconds default).
2. A chance they will get the "server busy" message (50% by default).
3. A chance that no search facilities will be available (75% by default).
4. A chance they will get redirected to another preset page (25% & homepage by default).
5. A chance they will simply get a blank page (25% by default).
6. Post flood limit increased by a defined factor (10 times by default).
7. If they get past all this okay, then they will be served up their proper page.

Another one of my favorite Tom moments - when people were first starting to figure out that Norman Einstein was him, he tried to misdirect me by attacking the NAVY in a shitty rep comment.
