View Full Version : Chiefs Mike Sims-Walker to be free agent

I thought the Jaguars would make every effort to keep him. It looks like he is going to hit free agency though.

One year ago at this time Jason Hill was a disappointing third-round draft pick coming off a nine-catch season in San Francisco. Mike Sims-Walker was a rising star coming off 869 yards and seven scores.

A lot can change in a year.

The Jaguars agreed to a two-year contract with Hill on Thursday evening, according to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union. Hill was cut by the 49ers last year and wound up gaining 233 yards in his final four games in Jacksonville as a deep threat. He would ideally be a third receiver next year.
Meanwhile, Ganguli reports the Jaguars told Sims-Walker they were moving on.

“Its official, I personally wanna thank all the fans who stuck with me in jacksonville for the last 4 years but sorry to say my time is up!!” Sims Walker wrote on Twitter.

Sims-Walker struggled with injuries early in his career, and there are questions about his maturity. With that said, he’s a very talented deep threat that has shown the ability to produce. He’ll be one of the most intriguing wideout names available when free agency eventually hits.

Coming into the 2007 NFL draft he was 6’2”, 209 lbs and ran the 40 in 4.35. He was a third round pick out of Central Florida.

I agree with bringing him in. The Chiefs really need to improve at WR and bringing in someone like Sims-Walker and drafting another would certainly help. After not playing Chambers in a playoff game, I thought he would be released. They may wait to see what his effort is like in the pre-season.

Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports the Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed unrestricted free-agent WR Chris Chambers to a three-year deal that could be worth up to $15 million. The contract includes $5.9 million in guaranteed money.

He must be asking for huge money or the jags wouldn't be letting him go. He was THE man for them last year. I think they are hoping he will test the FA market and not see 50 million dollars offers on the table so he will go back to Jacksonville.

I'm not sure who you were watching last year but the guy only got 562 yards receiving. He had around 8-9 games where he had 2 or fewer catches in a game. Mike Thomas had more yards than Sims-Walker. His best year was two years ago where he got 869 yards and 7 td's.

Yeah. May as well keep Chris "disappearing" Chambers, and Kevin Curtis. Sorry, while I'm not convinced he's a long term solution, at this point, he's better than anyone we have at the position not named Dwayne.

Chambers should just retire JHC. What more can he offer? There is no tread left on his wheels. This is just dumb. He maybe good just to keep around to teach or coach WRs but that's about it. Over under 20 catches next season?

a little unfair since he was dealing with injury alot last year. Now if you think he is going to be injury prone, then that's you opinion. But imo Walker is clearly the Jags best WR.

I was referring to your comment about him being "The Man" for the Jags last year. When I read your comment I thought you were saying he had a great year. I was just pointing out that he actually had an off year.

I think the jury is out on the guy. He could very well be a nice pickup for someone. I'm not a hater.

Chiefs | Could be interested in Mike Sims-Walker

Fri, 04 Mar 2011 13:18:29 -0800

The Kansas City Chiefs may show interest in Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent WR Mike Sims-Walker when free agency begins, reports Bill Williamson, of ESPN.com.

Jacksonville is parting ways with receiver Mike Sims-Walker. I could see a potential fit in Kansas City and Oakland once free agency starts. He is a good deep threat.

Add another name for a FA WR for the Chiefs to look at. Maybe two if you count Stuckey.

Brandon Jackson, James Jones, Chansi Stuckey among those non-tendered

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 5, 2011, 9:08 AM EST

There won’t be any transactions in the NFL during the next week, but a few of t week’s moves continue to slowly leak out. Or non-moves in this case.

Here’s a quick round-up of notable players we learned were not tendered contracts as restricted free agents, making them unrestricted free agents when the new CBA is reached. (A few other notable non-tenders are right here.)

Packers running back Brandon Jackson: Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Packers only placed tenders on guard Daryn Colledge, kicker Mason Crosby, and fullback John Kuhn.

Not placing one on third-down back Brandon Jackson is a bit of a surprise because the team is expected to try to bring him back. With that said, Ryan Grant and James Starks are clearly ahead of him in Green Bay.

Packers wide receiver James Jones: It’s hard to imagine the Packers paying the type of money it will require to retain Jones. We think someone will give him a nice deal as a potential starter. Safety Atari Bigby was also not tendered a contract.

Browns wide receiver Chansi Stuckey: Non-tendering Stuckey is a bit of a surprise because he led the Browns wide receivers with 40 catches last year. Not placing a tender on him may just be a recognition they don’t want to sign Stuckey long-term. The Browns need to get faster on the edges; Stuckey plays the slot.

It wasn't really a question of money in keeping Mike Sims-Walker for another year. The Jaguars could have tendered him just like the Chiefs did with Carr, Richardson, and Gilberry. It seems they could have given him a lowest qualifying RFA offer and at least gotten something if he signed elsewhere. Jacksonville made the decision to move on without him. Would be interesting to know how much of that was because of his play on the field and how much was based other things.

Best games by Chiefs wide receivers not named Dwayne Bowe in 2010:

3 catches, 69 yards - Midget (all three of these catches were out of the backfield, pathetic)
5 catches, 55 yards - Copper
3 catches, 42 yards - Chambers
5 catches, 41 yards - Midget
1 catch, 38 yards - Tucker
4 catches, 36 yards - Chambers
3 catches, 33 yards - Chambers

That's it for 30+ yard games.

Both? Oh no, then we would get to close to the Packers offense and all the reports of Haley going towards a run power O wouldn't be true.

Hell yes, I would take both! :thumb: Just cause they are way better than anything we got now.

Should be interesting to see how many and which FA WR's come to KC based on what they saw Bowe go through with Haley.

Any of them that are even a bit lazy and just wanna slid buy just showing up and collecting a check should know not to come to KC. This could include MSW.

If I remember right over the last 2 season it seems he had a lot of minor injuries that kept him out or always a game time decision. Just didn't come across as a tough guy or always giving his all. Just saying, if the Jags are giving up on this guy.....unless Haley can inspire him?

According to one Florida writer, the Rams and Texans have already contacted prospective free agent wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker to signal their interest in him.

The only problem? Sims-Walker isn’t a free agent yet and any contact with him or his agent clearly violates tampering rules.

Charlie Bernstein, who writes for FoxSportsFlorida.com and JagNation.com, passed along the info on Sims-Walker. It sounds like the type of report that originates with a player or agent hoping to stir up interest.

In this case, the news may only stir up questions as to why St. Louis and Houston have spoken with Sims-Walker before they are allowed to.
