I could actually vote for three songs in the heat

I think the Dylan regatta has sailed in force early and will be less common later on as the Springsteen fleet begins sailing.

I was not allowed to give 3 votes to Free Bird~

Rain Man

I thought there were four decent songs in this heat.

Keep Yourself Alive may actually be Queen's best song. If you haven't listened to it, do so. It's a great rock and roll song.

I went with Freebird next, though I think it's a bit overrated.

In third, I went with When the Ship Comes In, though it's a stretch to call it rock and roll. Oddly, that AC/DC song is actually pretty good and I could have voted for it as well.

What was up with that ELO song?

I hope you're at least looking them up on youtube.

Check out Keep Yourself Alive. This song could easily make the final round.

The first minute or so is really weird, that's what kills it. After that it's pretty good.

To me, that's the fun part. If I'm not familiar with a song I look it up and give it a listen. I've found a few cool new songs as a result. In this heat along, When the Ship Comes in and It's a Long Way to the Top both garnered my approval and I wasn't familiar with them before.

Must be. But in a tournament of champions, a bad first minute is a killer.

Indeed, I'd be surprised if it beat out the suckage option. But I'm a huge ELO fan so I voted for it anyway.

It's an amazingly dated song now, but my favorite ELO song was that one with the long-distance call. What was it called? Operator?

Rain Man

Telephone Line.

I really liked that song.

Rain Man
03-06-2011, 06:12 PM
I'm shocked that Keep Yourself Alive is lagging early. That's a song that I think would have crossover appeal among both the people who like innovative sounds and those who are classic hard rock fans.

Kinda surprised to see Seven Nation Army doing as well as it has. It's a great song, but I didn't think it stood a chance.

I am AC/DC biased but that is one of the best little known rock songs of all time.

A freaking bagpipe solo. Seriously? No other rock song has a badass bagpipe solo.

Bonn Scott was a bad mofo. Died too young like many others.

Great song. I may be in the minority but The Doors are way overrated. Had they had a longer run they may not have been near as relevent.

BTW where is Nazareth? Hair Of The Dog, Love Hurts, Whiskey Drinking Woman?

Nope, not in. You can propose it in the special thread for the new heat. But first you have to vote for Keep Yourself Alive.

Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes is the best song on this list.

I'll vote Free bird next because I my dad would want me too.

Ugh...the Doors.

What a bench of self-indulgent, drag-addled crap.

I knew I was wasting a vote on ELO (that's a really good instrumental, though). Had I known there was a chance the Doors would make it in, I would've just sat on my vote long enough to make sure they couldn't pull it off.

Shuttin' 'er down.

Freebird, with perhaps the largest margin of victory to date.
LA Woman, which staged a great comeback from an early deficit.

That huge drug-addled Doors rally did them in. Perhaps you should now shift your allegiances to Bruce Springsteen.

I'll pick Bruce over AC/DC nearly every time. That's not saying much, but it's something. Is Atlantic City in this thing?

It's classic for a reason.

Yeah.

Because Jim Morrison killed himself and Val Kilmer played a pretty solid cokehead.

Otherwise The Doors would only slightly more historically significant than 'Big Brother & The Holding Company'.

I'm not talking about The Doors specifically. Omaha is one of these young kids who thinks everything produced before the turn of the millennium is cheesy (NTTAWWT). As I said earlier in the thread, I voted for White Stripes over the Doors. :)

That's not really true. It's just that most of the stuff getting selected is '70s & '80s stuff & metal. I'd like to see some variety. I was just referring to AC/DC as cheesy... this time.:thumb:

Tell you what - since it overtook the 3rd place song after the finish line, I'll mark it as a possible. Since it's better to have heats of 8 songs, I'll include it if I need to fill a heat in the next round.

I sure don't know what people see in that song, though.

Coming up in a future heat. Also, you can enjoy "Simple Twist of Fate" by Bob Dylan in a future heat. However, no songs by Simple Minds were nominated.
