Oakland hired Bresnahan last month as a defensive assistant, but did not immediately specify his duties. Coach Hue Jackson said he had talked to some people outside the organization about the job, but stuck with a coach he had worked with before in Cincinnati.

2nd time he's been the Raiders DC. He was also the Raiders DC in 2000-2003.

And boy does he fucking suck.

Good hire Hue.

Anyone claiming the Raiders are going to do big things is fucking stupid.

Raider fans sure are excited:

What a sad joke.

Oh well, hopefully our offense continues to improve and put points on the scoreboard.

WTF what a lame ass move. No one wanted the job? what took so long to announce it? options ran out? god this is like bringing back art shell and the breakfast in bed offense.

I am raising my baby shyt green communication card in response to this news.

BUT, he was the guy behind our D when last we were good, but we had a historically efficient Offense w/ Gannon, Brown, Garner, Rice, Wheatley, etc., so yeah. Baby shyt green.

lmao....

:paperbag:

un-f'n-believable. I don't know whether to laugh or to cry

So Al Davis is the new defensive coordinator. How ****ing awesome is that. No more blitzing......

Stick a gun in my mouth and paint the walls with my brains

Don't laugh, the Florida Tuskers had the most feared defense in the UFL.

The primary task for Bresnahan will be improving a run defense that has been a problem for years for the Raiders. Oakland allowed the fourth-most yards rushing last season at 133.6 per game and has the worst run defense in the NFL since Bresnahan left before the 2004 season. Oakland has allowed 140.4 yards rushing per game over those seasons with a league-worst 139 touchdowns on the ground.

Oakland did finish second in the league in pass defense and was tied for second with 47 sacks.

During Bresnahan's tenure as defensive coordinator in Oakland, the Raiders ranked 17th in rushing defense (117.2 yards per game), tied for 14th in scoring defense (20.5 points per game), tied for 22nd in total defense (331.3 yards per game), tied for 17th in turnovers forced (117) and tied for 12th in sacks (152).

Bresnahan spent last season as defensive coordinator for Florida in the UFL. He has also been defensive coordinator for three years with Cincinnati and coached as an assistant with Indianapolis and Cleveland.

Seems like he was also completely out of football between his Bengals tenure and getting a job with the UFL. Sounds like the resume of a great football mind.

Those Raider defensive squads were filled with veterans that could run themselves. The current Raiders D is nowhere near established, or nearly as good.

Don't mean to intrude on your Raider bashing but....

Oakland won the AFC West in his first three seasons and went to the Super Bowl following his third year in 2002.

Care to list the defensive player he had to work with then, compared to now?

Also, let me know when they get a QB comparable to Rich Gannon and 2 legit receivers before you continue to spin how this might be a great hire.

Here's some news, the Raiders didn't win those years because they had a stellar defense.

I was curious so I went to look it up on NFL.com. Their 2002 defense was ranked 11th in total yards but 27th in points allowed. :spock:

This team isn't even remotely close to the Raider team from a decade ago.

Any comparisions are ridiculous.

That was when Gruden built a very strong OAK team and then took the Raiders and the Buc's to the Super Bowl simultaneously, right?

So, Rich Gannon was a perect fit for Al's vertical offense?

No but Al agreed because he knew Gannons talent and wanted to stick it in KC's ass real deep.
