The plan runs $49.99 per month and is supposed to be a 12mbps connection.

I'm curious to know how much you pay for your internet connection and what speeds you get from it. Who is your ISP? Do you like them?

Suddenlink. I hate them and dropped cable for DirecTV. But I can't get 10mbps internet anywhere, let alone for 35 a month, so I deal with their incompetence.

What do you hate about them? Is it their tech support? Constant billing issues? Intermittent service?

The worst customer service I've ever encountered from any company period. Apathetic, uninformed, and just overall ignorant. No troubleshooting at all. They just always want to send out a technician 3-5 days later. Cable was always an issue. Internet is never an issue, so I'm fortunate in that regard. And yes, the billing issues happen every month. I just spent an hour and a half with them on the phone last week before they finally realized they screwed up and credited my account 40 bucks. It was the month that cable was cancelled and went strictly to internet with them in their defense. But is dump them all together if I had any kind of similar internet option. Even if it was slightly more expensive. That's how much I loathe them.

What do you typically do on the internet? Do you really put that 10mbps to task with some heavy d/l'ing or are you mostly just a browsing kinda guy? Do any gaming online?

Not at all. We are browsers. Heh, Suddenlink is on the Federal watch list for illegal downloading, so that isn't much of an option. But the 1mbps service I got through Sprint is just sooooooo slow.

Do you not have DSL or Cable available in your area?

I looked for info on Suddenlink being on a watchlist but came up with nothing.

I did though find this bullshit.

Road Runner (with power boost, which probably affects tests like these since it opens the taps for the first 30 seconds of any download request)

I pay $108 for cable and internet, though if I recall my bill is 49.98 for the internet side of it.

edit: Yes I like Time Warner. I have had one storm related service outage and it was fixed only a few hours after my power was restored.

Yeah, I remember it being that way in Lawrence too. It was either Sunflower or ATT. Sunflower was complete garbage, they had bandwidth caps. So it was pretty much down to just ATT.

Overland Park is definitely the best place as far as prices go since they have 2 cable companies at each others throats competing and ATT on top of that.

I'm surprised Cox is charging you out the ass for those slow speeds. I would think given ATT is knocking on the door over there, they would try a little harder.

Cox has the better non discounted rate but only by a buck. $34 for 3mbps is nuts though. It is $50 for 6mpbs-12mbps but I really don't need that kind of speed.

ATT
3mb $35
6mb $40

Cox
3mb $34
18mb $50
35mb $65
55mb $99

3mb should never cost more than $20

For the record, I am only paying $10 for 3mb right now because I just switched to Cox on their current new customer deal so I won't really be complaining until this time next year.

but still, those prices are nuts.

What factors did you include in your $20 per month price point for 3mbps? Do you know how much it costs to provide you with a 3mbps line? Or, was the $20 an arbitrary number?

Motorola says the SB6120 capable of UP TO 150 mbps

SB5100 series is rated at UP TO 40 mbps.

When I first put it on my router freaked out more than once because it couldn't keep up with the modem as the WAN port was 10/100

I bought a nice D-link with Gig WAN and Gig LAN ports and I'm here to tell you that thing screamed with downloads.

It still does OK with the dual purpose PHONE/Internet modem but I gotta say it just isn't the same.

That one runs $50 brand new and is actually a pretty good little box.

 All I know is, the cable comes in from the wall, splits to some TVs, a phone modem, an Internet modem, and then I have a wireless router, and a desktop piece of shit, and the end result is "my porn downloads quick enough for me to :whackit: to". What more does a guy need? :D

Shortly after with Road Runner...

We're supposed to get 18 with RR, so that's pretty cool... that's a wired connection though. I usually see 10-15 down with wireless.

Something is wrong with Cox out here today because when I test it it goes to like 14 Mb/s then down to like 3...

Anyways, just like my junk, my internet speed is about average.

Only during off peak hours do I see this kind of speed.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1202518917.png

Usually it's 1/2 this or less and multiple disconnects and modem reboots daily.

Stjoewireless.net is the provider even though the test says SBC.

THE WORST internet company I have ever had and my only choice at the moment.

It's 2011 and still no "wired" broadband service for my area, such a shame.

I bet Centurylink could give you a run for your money on that statement, no shit either. I have to reset my router at least 10 times a day for it to do anything. I call customer service weekly, they send out guys monthly, say that it must be what im doing. But it's my only option where i live, so i have to deal with it for the time being.

Oh, and I'm not a fan of Verizon from past experiences. I will say that their FIOS TV and internet has curbed my pure hatred that I've had for them. I've forgotten to pay the bill once and they didn't charge me a late fee or disconnect my service.

I guess the Verizon home service is top notch. My hatred came from their wireless division.

Centurylink is our local telephone carrier here. We get the crap in the mail all the time about DSL availability in our area. I call and they say nope, it's not available yet for you. So I yell back, "Then why do you keep sending this to me in the mail, is this some damn joke to you people?" I got intouch with the engineer working this area and said we're 500 yards from being connected. So I ask,"Well, what the hell are you people waiting for then?" Damn politics!

My wireless carrier did finally upgrade our service yesterday though. Bumped speeds from 1meg to 3meg, but I'm still getting constant DC's. I tried watching Hulu.com last night and had to reset the modem twice.

I love my Uverse and save a bundle.

Mainly my wife and grandkids who uses it though. Except for Sundays. After we get home from church, the TV is mine for the rest of the day.

A buddy of mine posted this on Facebook yesterday. He was being really coy about the service. All he would say is it's at his house, but his company was paying for it.

I'm slightly inclined to wonder if he just swiped the file from somewhere, since it strategically doesn't include the location or ISP. I just don't know what he would have to gain by such a ruse.
