Would it be nice to allow the car to drive for you? Imagine a world without drunk drivers. Without distracted drivers on cell phones or falling asleep. Imagine taking a nap on the way to work or checking up on your e-mail while in transit. Imagine a country without a million people killed by cars each year. Imagine no need to worry about seat belt laws ( :) ).

As long as there isn't a lot of traffic I love it. Its pretty therapeutic.

Yep. Throw in some good tunes and I'm all set.

I drive for a living. The average person has no idea just how many fucking retards are out on the roads. It really is kinda scary.

I drive 100 miles a day. I don't even notice it anymore.

Seems kind of impractical for driving around town, but it would be nice to get on I-40 West, lean the seat back and take a nap.

When I was a kid, I loved to drive. I kind of hate it now. I would have no problem with a car that drove itself.

Same here.

And with my new rig having satellite radio, it makes the drive even more enjoyable.

And if it's a route I've never driven before, even better.

Hell, some of my best thinking/ideas come when I'm in the car.

I agree that I enjoy driving, especially distances. But think of the savings in life and property to say nothing of letting the cops worry about criminals, not bad drivers.

If the car is capable I'll let it do all of the work. I'd love to kick back and read a book or jacking around on CP while crossing western KS.

I certainly wouldn't need it 100% of the time but long highway trips would be perfect.

Zombies are the worst. It's pretty cool when they blow up RoboCop style when you hit them with the car, though.

I will pimp satellite radio until the day I die. Sounds like a completely dumb thing to pay for radio, but good god does it beat the shit out of local terrestrial radio.

You know how easy it would be to run away from home when you're 10? Just get in, type in where you want to go, and you're set!

That last part is a really good point.

Get an older car that lets you really feel like you're a part of it when it's hurtling down the freeway at 70 mph.

Much better experience than all the quiet prissy cars they make today.

While I romanticize the notion of taking a road trip, I really don't like driving at all. It's a complete waste of time. So I would be glad to let the car drive itself.

I really want to do a long train trip at some point. One of those where you have a little bunk bed with a curtain when you want to sleep.

or 2 more hours of porn watching. What one would do with the extra time is up to that person.

I would take self-driving cars in a heartbeat. I would take one just for me, but I'd like it even more if everyone were forced to use one. Rush hour would be be much better if a-holes couldn't swap lanes and cut people off, try to merge into 70mph traffic at 30mph, wait until the last second and cut someone off, etc.

The only time I enjoy driving if its some kind of sports/muscle car, such as a Corvette, or a v8 Mustang or Camaro.

Think about road issues. I know here in Central Texas there is a lot of talk about how to keep up with the growth of the area. Talk of making existing roads into toll roads (I don't think so, the taxpayers have already paid for these!), trying to find new places to put roads to handle the traffic, etc. With these cars this would be alleviated to some extent just as it mentions in the video about how much closer the cars can travel safely when removing the human factor.

Last year, there were fewer than 33,000 deaths attributed to motor vehicles, in a country of more than 311 million people.

I love to drive. I have a 1980 GMC Jimmy with a soft top. Drives like a freaking tank. Noisy as hell. But it's just badass! Pass everything but a gas station....

You are correct, I was quoting from the video. 32,788 last year for an average of 1.09 deaths per 100 million miles driven.

I loved to drive when I was younger. I used to drive around for hours looking at houses or a day trip. Now it's a pain. I don't think I've driven my car more than 100 miles one way on any trip. If it's a long trip I fly.

Would have LOVED it on our recent 22 hour car trip to Florida.

I could have set it on "wake me when you need gas" mode.

Love to drive. I had better, it's a 1500 mile round trip to Arrowhead from my house. Sat radio, MP3 player plus CDs make it that much better. I'd still love it even if I only had AM radio.

This. Driving on some empty, winding country road on a nice spring/summer day is great. Stuck in traffic in Chicago? Not so much.

Well said.

As for my wife, if she had a car that drove itself she still wouldn't be able to back up or parallel park.

I enjoy driving when there's no traffic, and I'm just going for a short drive.

I HATE driving on road trips and traffic gives me a headache.

If the cars would drive themselves and then people worked on lathes or something inside their cars, perhaps America could once again dominate world manufacturing.

If cars drove themselves, you could put a shower in them and sleep in on your way to work.
