View Full Version : Food and Drink Dessert Warfare: Round 1, Match 1

Just for grins, Dessert Warfare will utilize a different tournament approach.

It will be a double elimination, head to head tournament. Mano y mano. Two desserts enter, one dessert leaves. Two losses, and a dessert is out.

Here's another key rule. This is not voting for your "normal favorite". In every match, imagine that you're in a restaurant right at this moment, and the menu has only those two dessert items. Pick the dessert that you would order right now, not the dessert that you would "typically order".

Just so I don't end up with a zillion threads, we'll be presenting the one-on-one matchups in groups of four. So in each case, you'll pick one dessert from each pair.

Ready?

(Pouring coffee.) "And what would you like to have off the dessert menu?"

I must admit - I've never had Sweet Potato Pie with Whipped Cream.

And for some reason, I get the feeling this format is how dinner is decided in the Rain Man household via e-mail throughout the day. :)

Yeah...like I've ever eaten something called Crème Brulee.

The cre'me brulee vs. sweet potato pie was tough. I went with the pie.

Our cat is the tiebreaker more often than you'd think.

Reaper has old lady taste buds.
You could say that about any of the desserts in this poll.

Anything cheesecake = win

Yep, especially when it's matched up against cookies. The only time a cookie is good is right when they come out of the oven, other than that they're pretty meh.

Apple Cobbler, Vanilla ice cream w/ fruit, Cheesecake, Creme Brulee

It was close between the carrot cake and the ice cream w/ fruit. As a "restaurant owner" I would think latter would sell better.

I've learned two things from this epic contest already.

1. I've got old lady taste buds.

2. Reaper knows more about dessert than he does about Rock 'n' Roll.

Crème Brulee is the shit. If you even come near my God damned plate while I am eating it I will stab your fucking eyeball out with my fork and shove it up your ass. Back the fuck off my Crème Brulee, bitch.

Me too but I voted for it and don't even know what the hell it is.

Rainman just put Creme Brulee in because he likes to play with blow torches.

I also had no idea what it was when I voted for it. Looked it up, and it looks pretty decent.

I'll keep this poll open till Monday for the weekday crowd, but Match 2 will also go up today.

And everyone is underestimating the greatness that is apricot jello. However, I approve of how the other polls are going.

Snickerdoodle cookies are good forever.

I honestly did not know that there are people who had never heard of Creme Brulee. How can that even be? Do people not eat at restaurants anymore? Have people not seen the film Amelie?

Rain Man

I went with apricot jello over the more heralded apple cobbler. Apricot jello is really good, and it's low-cal and fun to eat.

Carrot cake over fruit salad by a mile. Carrot cake is awesome. Plus, I'm a little grossed out about fruit over ice cream. The textures don't match at all.

Vanilla bean cheesecake over snickerdoodles. Neither one would be my favorite in most scenarios, but you can't go wrong with cheesecake. Snickerdoodles are usually too dry and crunchy for a fellow like me who goes for chewy cookies over crunchy ones.

Creme Brulee over sweet potato pie. I'm not a huge creme brulee fan, but I really don't like sweet potatoes very much.

Rain Man

Okay, no one's out yet, but jello, fruit salad, snickerdoodles, and sweet potato pie are all pegged with their first loss. One more and they're out.

Bread pudding is on the list, but sans ice cream.

Sweet potato pie is like pumpkin pie, but better.
