Is there access to the crow's nest? If I was a kid, that's where I would hide my dirty magazines.

When I was a kid one of my friends built a fort at the back of his property. Then we got older and we used to go there and drink beer. Then one day his dad came out and smashed the whole thing to the ground.

Phobia
05-05-2011, 02:23 PM
If you fabricated that, you're the man. It would actually be more difficult to build that from scratch and make it look copesthetic than building it square, level, and plumb.

If it's a kit, still cool but I won't be as impressed.

You're thinking bounce-house: pay big bux to let kids swap staph infections with each other.

This is no bounce house. This is a fort, and one of the prime features of a fort is danger.

Do you think those bad guys will mind scaling the walls if their only recompense when falling is being cradled in soft angel feathers? What kind of deterrent are angel feathers?

"If you fall, you might even get hurt, if you're lucky."

This is what lines the walls of the minds of young fort dwellers. They wouldn't want it any other way.

Awesome job, man.

Greetings Homeowner,

As the official representative of your Homeowner's Association, I have been tasked with asking you to remove the rather crooked shack that is on your property. Section III.7(c) of the Homeowners Association rules clearly states that no detached structure taller than 72" from grade may be erected on your property without prior approval of the Architectural Committee of the Association. Failure to remove the structure from your property immediately may result in fines and a lien against your property. Your prompt attention to this matter will be appreciated. Once the offending structure has been razed, you may submit plans for a replacement structure should you wish. We won't grant approval, but at least you will have tried.

Not to derail, but our parks system pays some people some pretty sweet coin to do this kind of stuff... but the work is spectacular (not to take away from the work of the OP, just throwing out a tangent):

Okay, this is somewhat intriguing (since I occasionally mess around with wood).

The walls are 7 degrees off plumb? Is that right, Mr. kczoo? But it appears (in the photo) that the peak of the roof is level from right to left ... or is that one of those optical illusions like when a girl removes her bra and what you once thought were perfectly proportionate tittahs have transformed into the infamous and dreaded Breasts Of Oddness?
