Talking Cain on the radio today, so I thought I'd have a look. Remember Melky's hot start? Currently, he's .283/.305/.441. That OBP doesn't play.

Cain? After a very slow start, he's currently .298/.385/.452.

Moose looks like he's also getting back on track: .261/.344/.443.

No, you are correct.

Courtesy of Royals Review:

"In a not insignificant sample size (27 starts), Garcia is 9-13 with a 5.89 ERA in his career against the Boys in Blue. Garcia is the performance-enhancing drug Royals hitters need, as they are hitting .316/.355/.533 with 25 home runs in those 27 games."

Chen was probably our best pitcher. What happened?

NEW YORK | Left-handed pitcher Bruce Chen is heading to the 15-day disabled list because of strained left lat muscle in his back.

The Royals will recall right-handed pitcher Vin Mazzaro from Class AAA Omaha to replace Chen as their starting pitcher for Wednesday’s game against New York at Yankee Stadium.

Both moves will be made Wednesday. Club officials did not immediately reveal when Chen, 33, suffered the injury but said he has been receiving treatment in recent days but failed to respond sufficiently to make his scheduled start.

Chen’s injury will be backdated to May 6, the day after he pitched seven innings in a 9-1 victory over Baltimore at Kauffman Stadium. That makes him eligible for reinstatement on May 21. Chen is 4-1 with a 3.59 ERA in seven starts.

If I were the director of umpires, I'd rigidly enforce this rule of thumb: when in doubt, call it a strike. It is always better to have a strike zone thats a little too large than too small.

Large strike zones lead to better pitching, which leads to quicker games, which is a good thing when as a fan you've got 162 of the fricken things to watch or read about.
