German Shepherds arent my forte. Lil help finding a breeder/kennel in the Ozarks region.

Doesnt need to be off a CH. but the stock needs to be sound in body and mind.

This is a breeder in Mississippi. I know that's not the area you're looking for, but my cousins purchased a dog from their kennels, and they are extremely happy.

From what I hear, these puppies and others from different GSD kennels are imported from Germany. The dogs' bloodlines are much more stable that way, which leads to fewer health problems and will tend to curtail hip dysplasia (but not prevent it). American GSDs have been bred for different things like aesthetics and cuteness over the years, but that's really messed up the dog, which is why you hear so much bad stuff about the breed's health.

There might be one like it in the area you're looking for. I can tell you that this one is reputable, and from a personal anecdote, it's been putting out good dogs.

Its been a few years but a family member had a good female from a breeder in North C. IA. I don't know the name or contact info on the breeder but might be able to find out.

There's other listings in there around MO. Some don't have websites or are Stud service only.
otherwise looks like a few around ST. L, one close to wichita, OK, TX, MS, etc. The site list almost 300 ads and i don't know a damn thing about any of the people or their dogs. Most of the sites have references listings.

good luck MO

Good luck, Mo. I've had three German Shepards and all three were incredible dogs. Hell, one was even a Chiefs fan! (see avatar)

Co-worker runs www.winterpaws.org (Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes Breed Rescue). I asked her, and she said there's not a good GS breeder in this area, unless you go to an illegal back yard breeder. She thinks there's a good one up in Nebraska. She said she'd help find one, and asked about the needs. Just a pet? Wanting a puppy? She knows of a rescue that deals with pure breeds (no innerbreeding effects, etc), but you probably wouldn't get a puppy.

She recommends www.saveourshepherds.org. They're in Memphis, but she said she trusts them and they're reputable. Not necessarily certified, but good dogs. They do home checks for their dogs to make sure the home will fit the needs of the dog.

Dogs they have up for adoption right now.

My co-worker has done a home check for them here before.

Excuse me?

I was under the impression you were probably talking about certified, which isn't necessarily what MO is looking for. IOW, he's probably not looking to pay the price for a certified pure breed.

I'm passionate about this, because the individuals that I've worked with over there are simply amazing. Their GS's always place at the top at the U.S. Seiger show.

My co-worker is passionate about finding good homes for dogs that may not be certified. I was thinking that was more along the lines of what MO was looking for. You have no reason to call her FOS.

That said, im not really looking for a rescue. You pay a premium for sound genetics.

They're more than conformation, they are personal assistant dogs for the handicapped, working dogs ( herding, police, search and rescue), and great companion dogs who have a labs personality unlike American GS descendents.

Some of these dogs come straight from Europe.
