Man Eats His Meat-Mentous 25,000th Big Mac

Wisconsin Man Stays Healthy Despite Love Of Sandwich

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- A Wisconsin man has made gastronomic history by finishing off his 25,000th Big Mac.

On the anniversary of his very first Big Mac, Don Gorske, of Fond Du Lac, Wis., donned his McDonald's gear and ordered the momentous sandwich before a crowd of reporters and photographers.

"I should try to look my best, right?" said Gorske.

He finished the burger in 16 bites, just as he ate his first Big Mac 1972, when his love affair for the burger began. The 57-year-old said McDonald's was the first place he drove when getting his first car. When he asked the owner for a good sandwich, he suggested the Big Mac -- for better or worse.

"It's the best thing I ever ate in my life," said Gorske.

He ate a total of nine on that May day, but said he has cut down to one or two recently.

Gorske, however, is not a Whopper fan. He said a friend once gave him $5 to eat the Burger King flagship sandwich. He ate it, vowed "never again" and spent the money on Big Macs. His Big Mac fixation found him a spot on the movie "Super Size Me," which didn't paint a glowing picture of the fast-food giant.

People are scratching their heads over more than his love of the very specific burger. Despite the sandwich's 576 calories and 742 milligrams of sodium, Gorske remains thin and healthy.

"I had my cholesterol just checked a couple weeks ago and it was 156. That's the third time I had it checked. In 1997, it was 158 and in 2003, it was 140. I mean, there's nothing showing me my cholesterol is going up," said Gorske.

A nutritionist said he is certainly the exception to the rules of healthy eating.

"It's not something we would encourage because the calories are so high. Over 500 for one sandwich -- that's a lot for most people," said nutritionist Janine Bamberger.

Gorske's love for the sandwich reaches all the way to his basement, where he keeps most of the 25,000 boxes or receipts for the Big Mac.

His wife -- yes, he has one -- said she stands by her man no matter how many Big Macs he eats.

"Yeah, I think it's weird," said Mary Gorske. "But that's OK. It's a good weird."

Exactly. I'm not saying delicious as in eating 1.75 per day like this old fart. Just saying every once in a great while I get the itch for a big mac and that itch feels good once scratched.

More proof that we've all been fed lies and bullshit concerning the link between eating meat and fat and heart disease/cholesterol.

Y'know, I don't think I've ever had a Big Mac. The toppings don't look that appealing, so I always order a quarter-pounder with cheese or a cheeseburger or something. Pretty sure I've never had one.

3rd bun option- only if the burger is so sick you need it to soak up the grease cause the bottom bun doesnt cut it.

I love when the dude says it's the tastiest thing he's ever eaten. Fella needs to broaden his horizon a little bit.

Also, I don't get the point of the Big Mac, I can order a double or a single cheeseburger and tell them to put mac sauce on it. It tastes just like a Big Mac and is about 1/2 the size.

The more I think about it, 25,000 Big Macs is a lot. That's roughly three a day over a period of 25 years.

While I haven't had a Big Mac, I must admit that the whole third bread thing intrigues me. I like bread, so it seems like a burger with more bread would be a good thing.

When I was a kid riding a 10 speed my normal meal there after hanging out in the bowling alley was:

4 cheeseburgers
2 large fries (probably mediums now)

I was a big fan of Wendy's Triple Burger when I was a teenager, but I think they're illegal now.I've never had one of those either. Square burgers are just plain wrong. Kind of like square cut pizza. And Lemon Meringue.

This thread has inspired me. Next time I'm at MD I'll order a BM. Is that how you say it or should I say 'Big Mac'?

Also, if I ask for it without the special sauce is it still a BM? I'm guessing the answer will be no but I think that's the reason I've never had one.

Neither have I. Then again I didn't eat a burger until 2007. If I eat a fast-food burger, it's either from Backyard or Steak N Shake. Only because those places offer pepper jack; American cheese disgusts me on my basest level.

Sorry to disappoint, but pepper jack (in a burger joint) is American cheese with spice and less color added. It's a processed fast-food trick to make you think it's better than it is.

The dude ate his first BigMac in 1972.

Has ate 25,000 to this date. Lets see here:

-Okay, we are in 2011. Im am going to do a little math.

-25,000/39= 641 big macs per year

-641 big macs/365 days= 1.75 big macs per day, which is 1 and 3/4 bigmacs, almost an avg of 2 per day

-1 bigmac=3.2 ounces of beef

-3/4 bigmac=2.4 ounces of beef

-3.2 ounces of beef + 2.4 ounces of beef=5.6 ounces of beef, a little over a 1/4 pound of beef per day

-5.6 ounces of beef x 365 days per year=2044 ounces of beef, the dude eats 127.75 pounds of beef per year off McDonalds alone lol...Im estimating that number to be higher if we included his overall diet. But we don't know his overall diet, but Im assuming this guy is a big beef eater, and lover.

*I wonder what the condition of his colon is like?

you kidding!?! whopper is hands down the best. you just have to know how to work BK to get a good burger. If you want a freshly made to order burger you HAVE to make it a special to order one. Such as cheese w/ bacon, no onion, no pickles. I shit you not you're burger HAS to be made to order and it'll be nice and hot once you get it. If you just order a whopper that's on the menu then you're getting one thats been sittin under heat lamps. Big Macs are not made to order and they sit under the heat lamps till one is ordered. You simply can't have it your way with McDonalds unlike BK.

anytime I've ordered with no onions, no pickles McD's always leave them on. Even when I was a kid I used to order cheeseburgers plain (no toppings just cheese) and they'd come with onions, ketchup, and mustard. Then you have to go inside and make them get it right.

Last year I tried a little experiment. I didn't allow my two younger children to eat at McD's for six months. During that time I let them eat Subway, Arby's (three times), Togo's (once), In-N-Out Burger (four times) and Papa Murphy's (maybe five times). Out of those they had Subway the most, probably ten times over six months. So we at fast food about once a week.

Then, at the end of the six months, I took them to McD's for lunch. My son (14) had a Big Mac combo meal. My daughter (16) had a specialty chicken sandwich combo meal. The food was so disgusting that they couldn't finish it. At one point my son pulled the "cheese" out of his burger and asked me what it was made of. I told him I didn't know and he looked like he was going to puke. They didn't eat again until Dinner, they had lost their appetite. They've never wanted to go back since.

So...if you find yourself thinking that McDonalds food is pretty good, try skipping it for a while and eating something else. Mix in some fresh stuff and be sure to make your own hamburgers during that time period. You will most likely discover just how bad this shit is that you've gotten used to.

Do yourself a favor and read "Fast Food Nation", by Eric Schlosser. It has been described as "muckraking" and sensationalism but as an adult you can enjoy the story he is telling and ponder the actual situations he is bringing up. I completely stopped eating fast food for several months afterwards, and that's not a bad thing. I do occasionally pick some up, but I pay attention when I do it.

McD's is pure crap by the way. It's flattened pieces of shit, held onto a giant scab with sticky mucus, and it would taste exactly like that if McD's didn't add chemicals to distort the flavor of what you eat there.

Oh by the way, in case you didn't know, McD's business philosophy is not to make the best tasting burgers or the highest quality fast food. The have decided on a flavor that they believe their customers will accept and done everything in their power to make all of their food taste the way they think it should. The idea is that no matter where in the world you go, the local McD's will serve you that same shitty burger. It has paid off as people got used to it.

I'm in awe that he was able to develop a craving for those things. Yuck.

Just for shits and giggles; the average price of a big mac in the US in 2008 was $3.57

$3.57 x 25k = $89,250

$4 a pint ale X 25K = $100K name your poison

The only item at MC'D that has ever been worth a shit is the McDouble burger before they quit using decent beef. And fresh!!

All else sucks.
