View Full Version : Food and Drink Nuts - do you like them?

The Dessert polls have inspired me to create a sub-poll for the popularity of nuts used in recipes. Not all these nuts are nuts in the botanical sense, but are generally considered so in the culinary sense.

Still, it would be good Planet form to remind me every sixth post that peanuts are actually legumes.

A device for registering your nut preferences shall be forthcoming.

Back when I was allowed to eat chocolate chip cookies, I loved putting black walnuts in them. Grew up doing that, using nuts from the trees in the back yard.

These days, I'm basically limited to pea-legume butter on vegetables and raw almonds.

I love cashews to death. And Macadamia. Chocolate-covered macadamia is evil.

Almonds and cashews. I love pistachios, too, but they are actually a fruit.

Whenever my mom used to make brownies, she'd always ruin them by putting crushed walnuts on them. Fuck those nasty fucking things.

I like most or all of the nuttish-type things on the list, but I only voted on the ones that I love or that I hate. I hate none of them, and love cashews and pistachios. They sell a 2.5 lbs. container of cashews at my local grocery store, and it's like catnip to me. I can't resist it, and work through those 2.5 pounds faster than I care to admit. I love cashews. I also love pistachios, but don't have them as often and don't have the history.

While I don't like nuts as a filler in other foods like desserts, I like them on their own. When I was in college I would buy peanuts a lot because I could afford them and like them. But when I got out and got a "real" job and started making money, my big rite of passage was that I started buying cashews instead of peanuts. Even now, I smile to think about it, because that was a big deal to me. It was my one big consumer behavior change when I graduated.

Cashews are truly a vice of mine. I love cashews more than most people love their children.

I like almost all nuts. Pecans can be really really good. I am not a huge fan of the walnuts, though.

BTW preshelled nuts are the worst invention known to man. If you can't bust your own nuts you shouldn't be eating them!

I think the question was inclusive of whatever method gets the nuts into your mouth.

I agree with this, except I'd go a little further and say I despise walnuts. My favorites are cashews, almonds, and pistachios, with peanuts not far behind.
