If not, you really should think about doing so. I read my electric, gas and water meters on the 15th every month. You?

I have to roll them back around that time but I don't really pay attention to what the number is.

I've caught them using my readings from the month before on more that one occasion

Yes, electric and water. We have our own propane tank for gas.

We have to because out here we read the meters and then calculate our own bills. Seriously.

Hell, gas and electric utilities don't even read my meters. The reading is sent to them over some sort of wireless communication. My water use is estimated for two of three months and they read and adjust the total on the third month. If I see something that doesn't look right in the bill I'll check it out. That rarely happens.

that is common practice. They will eventually get the correct reading and it works itsself out.

NOPE

So that you can catch read errors by the utilities. My water utility read my meter wrong this month and over-charged me for 10,000 gallons (which equates to about $100). I've had the same happen on electric twice before.

I only have one meter and it's for the electric. Never read it myself.

Eh, if I noticed something was way off, I'd check. As is, they'll correct it in a while anyway. Our electric meter is estimated every other month I think.

No, but I probably should.....

Kansas Gas and KCPL have probably f***cked me numerous times.

Wouldn't it catch up the next time?

Yeah, it should. I suppose if you're in an area that puts surcharges on usage if you go over a certain amount, it might make a small difference. Other than that...

I just quit working for our local gas/water company last week. They're in the middle of converting all meters to wireless read so the meter reader just has to drive by your house for a reading.
A lot of people are about to lose their jobs.

Even that seems out of date.

Heh, they sent me quite a few letters wanting to get in to change my water meter, and I finally called and told them that if they want to reimburse me for taking a day off of work to clear out the storage room where the meter is located then I'll let them in to change it. After that I never heard anything about it again.

I don't like to leave things in the hands of a meter reader who already made one mistake.

If they do that in KS with Westar I blame Guru and KCFalcon59 I don't think they can affect you in Florida.... but then again... :hmmm:

yo DO realize that the next reading would correct any error, right?

Like I said, that presumes that the reader will get it right. We also have tiered rates, so even if he did, I would still be out money.

We the readers see the CP bloody, sandy discharge as a gift from the internet gods. Metering it would be akin to looking a gift horse in the mouth & I just now made the whole reading mass sick
