I can't say I go back that far, or we didn't have one in the area. I don't think they had the idea down pat yet.

Not really. But as a kid my 1st trip to the McDonalds in Olathe I recalled the thought of if I was going to see this strange clown.

It's funny on the (mostly online) poker site I hang out on, "old-timer" could mean over 30. So I fully expected this would be something I'd remember. I forgot on CP "old-timer" actually means old-timer.

It's difficult to imagine that advertising folks thought this was a good idea. McDonald's is huge, but I can't imagine this ad had much to do with that.

I guess this was before my time. I remember when McD's guaranteed your order in 60 seconds or less or it was free (not drive-through). They had timers on the wall that started when your order was entered.

The commercials probably had little effect on sales at first. McDonalds wasn't a large chain in the early 60's. Way too many ma & paw drive inns, malt shops, ice cream stores and a few Dairy Freeze & DQ's here and there.

But soon by 1970,McDonalds really took off and the rest is history.

That's a really old commercial, from late 1950's or early 1960s. Willard Scott was the first Ronald. He's changed quite a bit, obviously.

And he is often found in compromising positions....
