Pick your top 5.

Rain Man

I went with...

Ness (altruistic and incorruptible - a true man's man)

Armstrong (called dibs on the moon. That's intense, man.)

Akhenation (try telling an entire civilization to change their religion, while at the same time declining to depict yourself as an idealized god)

Hancock (his signature exceeded Patriotplanet guidelines, which was risky)

Conrad (Conrad is a great name, and he was a guy you wanted on your side)

Who the fuck are these people? Your men? Or Elton John's men?

Did we nominate Elton John? I hope so.

Akhenation (try telling an entire civilization to change their religion, while at the same time declining to depict yourself as an idealized gog

I had him but the changed it to Ness. He was pretty far ahead of his time with the first real monotheist religion, the Aten. But his portraiture always portrayed him as gay looking, or out of shape, so I couldn't go mans man with him. He was Tutankhamun's dad or uncle as I recall. Interesting thing is that originally Tutankhamun was named Tutankhaten before the priests killed off his dad and when installed on the throne at 8 he was forced by the priests to reopen the temples of the old gods and Amun-Re and then he took the name Tutankhamun.

Any list that contains Charles Martel but not Rick Martel is bullshit.

Akhenation (try telling an entire civilization to change their religion, while at the same time declining to depict yourseled on your side)

"Everybody's doooin' a brand new thing, now.

-Come on baby, do the Akhenation

Doesn't matter anyway, in Egypt nation

-Come on baby, do the Akhenation

Just indicate that you are no longer a Gah-oh-ahd, yeah

-Come on baby, do the Akhenation

An' tell the population that you're a frau-oh-ahd, yeah

Come on baby, do the Akhenation"

Well, we now how that story ends. Single god, singled out, is as good as none.

Just ask Dave Lane.

I’ve heard, from trusted sources, that John Hancock was very “flamboyant”.

I'm always late to these poll parties but I won't allow that to dampen my vehement disapproval.

First off what the hell is up with this poll format!? I am not familiar with it and I don't like it. Rainman may rig the shit out of his polls but he has set the gold standard for long term poll presentation and moderation on CP, any diversion from the Rainman method is unacceptable. Secondly where the fuck is the Jack London option? I can't figure this shit out. At least with a rainman poll i could figure out where to cast my vote for Jack London (sadly rainman woulda found a way to make sure that a nancyboy like sam clemens beat ole jack out but nobody's perfect). Thirdly Jack Kerouac may have been an occasionally brilliant writer but everybody knows he dabbled in sodomy, I'm not here to judge anybody but I think Kerouac cashed in his manly man chips as soon as he provided fellatio to another dude, just sayin. If Jack London aint in this poll it should be absolutely disregarded cuz the field would be all shitty and stuff. To Build A Fire goddammit!

I'm always late t...

Writers?

That's all you got?

A man's man who writes about fictional man's men?

And you didn't even mention John Irving? At least the guy was a wrestler.

Anyway...

Good list by the OP.

Although, Hancock was nothing more than a bourgeois merchant who got pissed his sloop loaded with Portuguese booze was impounded by the British because he didn't want to pay import taxes and decided to rile up other bourgeois middle class intellectuals to his cause. Add to the fact that working class Bostonians didn't get there alloted amount of swill that month just eased the revolutionary concept all the more. (Try that bullshit this day and age and see where your "Revolution" gets you.)

I'm eagerly awaiting a potential Finals featuring Erwin Rommel, Cary Grant, Jim Thorpe and Aristotle.

You've compiled a fine list of people who had no tolerance or acceptance of anything outside their belief system. Murderous religous zealots, except for Ness and the moon walker, oh and John Footpenis.

I am just the messenger, not the list-maker.

Do we have an agreed upon definition of a "man's man"?

I don't believe so.

Evidently it has something to do with soap and cleanliness.
