Google's Thursday homepage doodle is celebrating what would have been the 96th birthday of musician Les Paul with a playable guitar logo.

For the next 24 hours, the logo on Google.com will be replaced with the strings of a guitar that will play a tune as you strum them with your mouse. In the U.S., users can click the black "compose" button and record a 30-second track. Clicking the button again will display a link to share the song you've just created.

Google said it was inspired to include the record button because Paul, in addition to his guitar work, also "experimented in his garage with innovative recording techniques like multitracking and tape delay," Alexander Chen, a designer (and musician) with Google's Creative Lab, wrote in a blog post.

You can record your song. Feel free to Post it below and share!

It would be more cool if you could actually play different notes. HBD, Les Paul.

Heh, I used to think that until I owned a Les Paul. Don't me wrong, Strats are nice guitars, but I love my Les Paul.

I had a Les Paul. They are heavy and the neck is nowhere near as luxurious as that of a Strat.

My fingers purr on the neck of a Strat.

They scream, "MY GOD! NOOO!!!" on a Les Paul.

:D

Love my Les Paul but my Ibanez RG series gets the majority of my attention these days.
Miss the Ibanez Wizard necks

Got an 84' American strat too ;)
Must take a pic or two of it...

Shame I Eddy Van Halened it....
took the old mans wood router and carved teh neck and body for the Floyd Rose I installed. Added a Demarzio super destortion double coil, and a singel volume control.
Then filled in the front two pick up holes with kitty hair and body filler, painted it, Irredessent Purple and Presto!! A full on glam metal axe

Really kicking myself in the ass for being that stunned, and ruining that guitar 25 years later (seemed like such a good idea at teh time.)
But man does she play nice,,action so tight you can almost hear fret buzz, till you plug it in my Marshall JCM-800 and let er rip
