View Full Version : Chiefs NFL looks into porn event ad using NFL players (Berry...Flowers)

Five NFL players were featured in a recent advertisement for an Exxxotica Expo 2011 party in Miami last month. The problem: They were in uniform.

“The NFL office works on behalf of the clubs to protect their intellectual property rights in matters such as this” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told ABC-7 in Chicago, who broke the story.

The players in the ad who were said to be “hosts” of the party: Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers, Bears safety Major Wright, Chiefs safety Eric Berry, Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson, and Raiders wideout Jacoby Ford. (Here’s the ad.)

“Our legal team is reviewing the ad. In general, companies not affiliated with the NFL or its clubs may not depict a player in his uniform” said McCarthy.

The Bears said they are “troubled” by Wright’s usage and believe it’s an inappropriate use of their logo, so they alerted the league about it. They pointed out that sometimes players are unaware their images are used in such events, but ABC-7 calls Wright a “fixture” of the Miami party scene. Rookies like Daniel Thomas and Corey Liuget were also in the ad.

The event was billed as the official launch party for the Expo, which will take place in the Chicago area in July. It’s said to be the world’s largest gathering of porn stars in the world.

We know the NFL is losing advertisers because of the lockout, so perhaps they should embrace this as an opportunity.

What’s more successful (and American) than football and porn?

Well, well, well.
That story (http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2011/6/15/2225047/weird-news-kansas-city-chiefs) about a couple of Kansas City Chiefs (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/kansas-city-chiefs) players, including S Eric Berry (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108650/eric-berry), being involved in an advertisement for a party promoting the pornography industry?
Yeah, Berry didn't know anything about it. He didn't attend, didn't promote it and didn't approve of the use of his name or image for the party, according to his agent.
Berry's agent, Chad Speck, issued this statement to me shortly after we posted our initial blurb (http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2011/6/15/2225047/weird-news-kansas-city-chiefs) on the subject: "Eric did not attend and had no knowledge of this event, and he certainly did not approve the use of his name and image in connection with the party."
Berry wasn't even in town when the party took place. He had come to Kansas City on Friday, May 20 -- the night of the party -- for a book signing with Inky Johnson the following day.
We're working on finding out a little more about what exactly happened here. We already know the league is investigating whether the advertisement violated the rules of showing players in uniform.
So, stand down Kansas City. Eric Berry isn't promoting porn parties.

Players deny involvement in Exxxotica Expo
Posted by Michael David Smith on June 15, 2011, 5:30 PM EDT
Jackson_Kareem

Hours after news broke that several NFL players appeared in an ad for a porn event called Exxxotica Expo, the players have released statements saying they had no involvement in the event and didn’t know their names and images would be used to advertise it.

Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson released the following statement: “I wanted to clarify an event that took place on May 20th at Club Play in Florida. I authorized my name to be used at that club with the understanding that it was going to be a party hosted by NFL Players. It was never explained to me or did I ever authorize my name or likeness to be associated with Exxxotica Expo 2011. I am appalled that my name and likeness were used in that capacity. In addition, I never authorized the use of my likeness or picture in my NFL uniform. I apologize to the Houston Texans, their fans and family if I caused any embarrassment. I am sincerely sorry.”

We’ve received virtually identical statements from other players including Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers, Bears safety Major Wright, Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas and Chargers defensive end Corey Liuget.

The next Exxxotica Expo takes place in Chicago in July. If you were planning to attend because you hoped to meet an NFL player, you might be disappointed.

UPDATE: As noted by ArrowheadPride.com, the fact that Flowers re-tweeted a tweet saying he would attend a porn star extravaganza on May 20 calls into question Flowers’ claim that he objected to the use of his name in connection with the event.

Speaking of ewok slots, I fear I must alert my fellow Planeteers to another outbreak of midget crime.

Actor who played Ewok in Star Wars and Harry Potter goblin 'touched himself for 30 minutes in front of teenage girl on train'

A dwarf who appeared in the Harry Potter and Star Wars films is facing jail after indecently exposing himself to a schoolgirl on a train.

Nicholas Read, who stands 4ft 5in, sat next to the 17-year-old as he performed an indecent act.

The teenager told the court she was too scared to say anything and feared he could assault her.

Read, 40, who played an Ewok in the 1983 film Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and a Gringotts goblin in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, had drunk half a bottle of gin and was feeling ‘merry’. He covered his lap with a bowler hat he had been wearing and fondled himself.

He denied this, and claimed the hat was not on the overhead racks because he couldn’t reach them. Yesterday, when he stood in the witness box, he could barely be seen.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was traveling on a train from London when Read sat in the aisle seat beside her.

Speaking from behind a screen, she said: ‘He placed his hat on his crotch. I saw a movement and I didn’t know whether to believe it. I looked in the reflection of the window and saw his hand moving under the hat. He tried to catch my attention, tilting his hat up, looking at his crotch area and then looking at me a few times.’

The behaviour continued for between 30 and 40 minutes of the 55-minute journey.
