PITTSBURGH -- A man attacked the wife of Pirates catcher Chris Snyder in a traffic dispute while Snyder sat in the car, unable to get out because he'd had back surgery, police said.

Investigators say Carla Snyder and the scooter-riding man, Subhash Arjanbhi Modhwadia, nearly collided Wednesday. The 44-year-old Modhwadia followed her to a gas station, kicked the vehicle and swung at Carla Snyder. Authorities say he ripped a mirror off the car.

Snyder
A passer-by and an off-duty police officer subdued him. Police say Modhwadia bit the bystander and threw punches with keys between his fingers. He also took off his shoe and threw it in their direction before being subdued.

Police say the Snyders' two children were in the car.

Modhwadia was charged with aggravated assault, assault, criminal mischief and driving with an invalid license. He is being held on $25,000 bail.

A Pirates spokesman told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the team is thankful people stepped in to keep the family from harm.

"We are grateful for those bystanders who stepped up to assist Chris to ensure no physical harm was done to his wife and children," Brian Warecki told the newspaper.

Subhash should buy a lottery ticket. He picked the only time to attack that family where the guy wasn't healthy with a bunch of baseball bats in the back seat.

Can I call you Sub? Great. Now if I were you, Sub, with my invalid licence and all, I probably would think twice before engaging in Scooter Rage at a car full of people who may or may not have cut me off in traffic.

"Swung at" doesn't necessarily mean "hit".

The fact that he apparently missed doesn't mean he didn't attempt to hit her.

And attack isn't always successful.

"Okay, Subhash, Allah declares you will be of service to us in the war against the infidels."

"Praise! Tell me, Hassan, what is my task?"

"You are to be... our first suicide scooter."

"Oh. Uh... Does Allah have a different idea, perhaps?"

"No, Subhash! It is decreed that you shall strap explosives to your ass and drive at full speed at the infidels, yelling, 'It is the will of Allah!! Die, die, die, Christian scum!'."

"But, Hassan... My scooter's top speed is only five miles per hour."

"Yes, Subhash, but to counter that we will have you attack a bus full of special people. Those move much more slowly."

"I... don't think you are correct about that, Hassan. I believe the bus moves at the same speed, it is only the bus riders who are slow."

"Nonsense! Do as we command!"

My wife is studying to be a paralegal and mentioned in conversation the other day something about assault being the threat and battery being the act of violence. The conversation went on to other things so I don't know the details. It seemed odd to me but you never know with legalese.

Yup, that's accurate.

Assault is to put one under the immediate threat of immanent bodily harm. As far as a 'lay-definition' goes, it would fall under an attack.

Hell, the dictionary definition makes it pretty clear as well.

The woman was 'attacked'. I'd say bugeater is being hyper-technical but he isn't. He's just being inaccurate.
