A survey of 40,000 people that ate 100,000 meals at the big fast food restaurants. I'm glad Quizno's is at the bottom of the sub category. That place sucks.

If you look at the ratings, the food is shit, but it's cheap and fast. People value cheap these days.

Not a HUGE fan of any of them... but Fuddruckers is better then most... Krystal is probably the best on that list. I might put 5 guys 3rd... but at that point they all are about the same garbage.

In n out would be close to the bottom of my list... I'd eat Jack n the Box 1000x over In n Out's bland crap.

Jason's Deli is a great choice. Chick-Fil-A is excellent. I've never eaten at In-N-Out Burger or Burgerville, but Whataburger and Five Guys are overrated. CiCi's and Papa John's being above Pizza Hut is a national embarrassment.

Having Subway above Quizno's just might be a sign of the Apocalypse.

As for the burgers. The only convenient place for me on the list is Sonic. It's OK. Wendy's works in a pinch but low on my list. White Castle being listed so high blows my mind.

People just try to hate the successful chains to some degree though. There is a reason why McDonald's is #1. It's not because they suck. It's because they provide a inexpensive, decent tasting product that people are always familiar with.

WHAT the **** is the obsession with In-n-out burger? It's decent but absolutely NOTHING SPECIAL...

Same with Five Guys...

It's probably the best tasting burger for the price I've had in recent memory from any fast food place. I used to consider Jack-In-The-Box to be the best fast food burger. It was a little higher priced than the others but it was better. In the last few fears they all started tasting like crap to me, and I noticed all of the prices went up substantially. In-N-Out isn't anything unusual or remarkable. They just use good fresh ingredients. That's it. Nothing special about the burger at all except the stuff they use to make it. I can taste the difference though, and the prices are good. Given a choice...I'd go there. Tastes like something you'd make in your own back yard.

We have one in town. It's not great pizza but it's cheap and convenient. I don't care for the red sauce so much, too much basil. Chicken-Bacon-Artichoke on the light crust is pretty good, and I don't go for chicken on pizza normally.

It's fast food. There's so much variation by location, I don't know how you can hardly form an opinion.

I could go to one Taco Bell and love it, and another and not want to feed it to a starving dog. You can find Subways with fresh veggies, and ones with nasty ass half rotten lettuce.

The one thing I will say is the winners of the categories are mostly on target. And Little Caesar's being ranked that high is completely beyond comprehension.

In 'n Out is fine, but I agree with Austin in that the obsession with it is a bit strange. I mean, people get off the airplane at LAX with their eyes all bugged out mumbling "Gotta go to In 'n Out" like it's a two-month overdue drug fix.

The only thing that's phenomenal about In 'n Out is the service, IMO. The food is fine...but they've definitely cornered the market out here.

The best Pizza I ever had in my life was calling up a Sbarros. Ordered a whole pie (meat lovers type, with the crust on top and bottom) and could only finish 2 and 1/2 pieces.

When you buy that crap at your local mall after it sits there for 4.5 hours under a heat lamp it doesn't taste nearly as good.

There are 2 Chik-Fil-A locations in Massachusetts (Burlington and North Shore Malls) and a bunch of Little Caesar's in southeastern Mass and Rhode Island. Unfortunately, there isn't a Jason's north of Maryland.

Being in Rhode Island, you do have D'Angelo and Papa Gino's. Depending upon your tastes, that may help ease the sting a bit.

The six that I think I've eaten at most often in the past 12 months:

Pizza Hut
Chipotle
McDonald's
Subway
Papa John's
Taco Bell

Other than the top two, the last four have been visited once in the past year. Chipotle maybe three or four times, and Pizza Hut three or four times.

If they were all equally convenient and I wasn't worried about health, the pattern would most likely be more like this:

Chick-Fil-A
Pizza Hut
Jack in the Box
Qdoba
McDonald's (I like their fries, what can I say?)
Taco Bell

Realistically, and given the fact that french fries are very unhealthy, my more likely realistic scenario would be:

Pizza Hut
Boston Market
Chick-Fil-A
Qdoba
Quizno's
Sbarro

(Not that these are particularly healthy, but they're probably less bad than my natural preferences.)

As an aside, I don't understand why people go to sandwich shops. I can pretty much make anything at home that I would buy in a sandwich shop, and do it easily and quickly. If I eat out, I go for something I'm not going to be making at home. The only time I'll go to a sandwich shop is if I'm with someone else who wants to go.

I disagree about Burger King...I have nothing bad to say about Wendys. When you go into McD you get good fries and a fast food burger that is consistent. I like going in and getting a few double cheese burgers. People love talking in hyperbole when talking about fast food for some reason. It isn't shit its just a fast food burger.

The McDonald's double cheeseburger truly is a great value. I'm not ashamed to say that I like McDonald's.

Well, I'm a little ashamed, but it won't stop me from saying it.

Only 26% of the restaurants available on this list are available either close to work or home and I live in a thriving metropolis. When it comes to this type of food, I typically go the "ma n' pa" type places.

I can walk to 19 of the 53 if I'm at home or at work, though the A&W and KFC are a combined restaurant that does not equal the sum of the parts.

Interestingly, I can only reach 4 of the burger joints, one of which is the Frankenstein KFC/A&W. It and the Burger King aren't in my psychic consciousness at all even though they're somewhat near, and I've probably done the Wendy's two or three times in the past five years.

We have all sorts of local restaurants nearby, though, and they're generally preferable to me.

I can go to Wendy's and get a far better double cheeseburger for a buck.

Speaking of double cheeseburgers, Lights Snack Shack, in Belton, had some kick-ass burgers. I havent thought about that in years.

There are 2 Chik-Fil-A locations in Massachusetts (Burlington and North Shore Malls) and a bunch of Little Caesar's in southeastern Mass and Rhode Island. Unfortunately, there isn't a Jason's north of Maryland.

 Are you shittin' me?!? There are Chik-Fil-As? Damn! I drive by the Burlington Mall when I go to my dentist. Next time I'm stopping. They have the best friggin' fries on the planet (especially when you dip them into their barbeque sauce).

Being in Rhode Island, you do have D'Angelo and Papa Gino's. Depending upon your tastes, that may help ease the sting a bit.

Yes, D'Angelo's rocks (a grilled sub is so much better than the stuff at Subway). And Papa Gino's is an underrated chain; their pizza is consistently good and tastes the same as it has since I was a kid. Nice spicy sauce, decent quality cheese, nice cornmeal dusted crust. I think I tried Papa John's once, haven't had Domino's in years, and haven't had Pizza Hut in literally a decade; no need, with Papa Gino's around.

How is fuddruckers listed so low and why is it even on this list? Everyone I've been to is a sitdown restaurant and its one of the best burgers I've ever had.

I don't go often because it isn't near me but I have always enjoyed my fudruckers experience. I do agree it has a feel of "one of these things is not like the other"

I always view Fuddruckers as a treat so I don't go there often. They are super high-quality, and I love the cheese dispenser for your fries.

Papa Murphy's is by far the best of any of these.

How much does a large pepperoni go for? I've never tried them and my curiosity is growing.

Their SW Chicken Tacos are better than the Bell by far. What I don't get is the market-share Jack In The Box receives. The service is slow as shit, and the food is anything but worth the asking price.

Apparently I'm in the minority, but that place is horrible even if you cook it right. I'd rather drink Murphy's Lemon Oil Soap than eat that stuff.

Never had it.

I know that if I'm ordering pizza, I don't want to pick it up and cook it.

I'm not sure who defined fast food for the purposes of this rating, but in my world, fast food is cooked.

But since there aren't any here where I live, Round Table is the best available.
