I suck at knots. I have ruined more ropes than I care to think about. Here is a cool site to help understand about any knot you need

I'm an Eagle too but I don't know shit. I learned all my knots as tenderscout.

These were the standard knots when I was a boy scout, and I still can tie them all.

Square knot
Two-half hitches
Taunt line hitch
Bowline
Clove hitch
figure eight
Sheep shank

LOL, I'm an Eagles scout too, but I have no idea, I'm still making them up. Most say they're a modified granny knot, I say they lack creativity. I tied up nuclear subs with my knot skills, so that's good enough for me...

Eagle Scout and fisherman. I can tie a bunch. Nautical folks and mountaineer types (NOLS instructors) are probably the biggest knot geeks I know, though.

the only knots I can tie are various tie knots.

Tons. I'm an Eagle Scout and remember most of those knots, plus I know at least 5 ways to tie a tie.

The knot I use the most is the taut line hitch. It makes a nice readjustable sized loop that doesn't slip under pressure.

The only one I'm good at is the giant one my extension cord ends up in every time I wind it up.

Dressing is just as important as knowing the actual knot.

As a sailor, fly fisherman, and former whitewater raft guide enough to see a few missing form the illustrations.

My air compressor hoses can whip your extension cord knots any day, any time.

One or two. As a kid I admired my uncle. He had a framed poster of all these knots on his wall and he could tie all different kinds of them. I used to wish I could do it.

Lots of Eagle Scouts here....:hmmm: I'm one as well. I remember about all of the above knots. I also am currently a Cub Scout leader for my son's Pack; so I get a refresher every now and then. ;)

don't forget to wet the knot before you snug it up or you will burn and weaken the line

Used to have a bigger arsenal from sailing, but the only knot I still use with any regularity is the figure eight for rock climbing

Cool, I have used the Improved Clinch for lighter line but I’ve learned the hard way that with heavier lines you can actually lose more line strength than with the plain ole Clinch knot.

Absolutely. You’re already going to lose line strength to the knot, by lubing it with some spit while cinching down it’ll lose less strength that it would dry.

Yeah, nothing like having the lake monster break your line, swim off while giving you the fin, because you used the wrong knot. Been there. :#

When I tourny bass fished I moved to the palomar....faster to tie and strong. Hard to do with tiny eyes though. But at my age any small hook has eyes that seem impossible to get a line through.

Yup. Most of the time my line has broken its been right at the knot.
The exception is when I started going after big catfish. I learned to use steel leader because they will chew on the line and swipe their heads back and forth to cut it while fighting.

Indeed, pike are the same way.

I use back to back fishermans knots all the time to splice tippet to line, blood knots occasionally, and usually tie a plain clinch knot at the fly or lure. Sometimes use a palomar with lipped baits cuz they seem to have more action.

Lol try fly fishing with a size 28 midge pattern. Now THAT is small and hard to get the line through.

Yea, but I’ll put up with small hooks because I love dry fly fishing.

ROFL

I remember the first time I took my dad fly fishing with me on one of our tailwaters. We were fishing with 7X flouro and #24 zebra midges. He said he couldn't even see the tippet to tie it on. I had to rig him out every time.
