Hog Coach Bobby Petrino's Son Arrested on Drug Charges

The Associated Press & 5NEWS
2:27 p.m. CDT, July 18, 2011

The son of Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino has been arrested in Indiana on drug-related charges, according to an Associated Press report.

He was a one-time walk-on for the Arkansas football team.

The Huntingburg Police Department in southern Indiana said 23-year-old Dominic R. Petrino, of Fayetteville, Ark., was arrested at 12:06 a.m. Monday and charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, illegal possession of prescription drugs and possession of paraphernalia.

An officer pulled Petrino over after reportedly seeing him drive off the road and then back onto the roadway. Police say a blood test showed the presence of marijuana and prescription opiates.

Petrino was booked into the Dubois County Jail and was released on $1,000 cash bond later Monday. A jail officer didn't know if he had an attorney.

Ouch. Possession of paraphernalia is a felony. He better hope they throw that one out.

The irony being that Bobby P just dismissed Anthony Oden from the hogs for DWI and possession of k2. It was his second DWI though.

What seems odd?

It seems odd that possession of paraphernalia would be considered a felony. Very odd. Real damned odd.

Well 10 years ago I got busted and was told by my attorney that I was lucky that I was charged with "Instrument of Crime" instead of "Paraphernalia" since the first is a misdemeanor and the latter is a felony.

It probably depends on the state, it might also depend on the type of paraphernalia.

I got busted inside the city limits where I live Arkansas as well. Mine was a glass pipe for weed only! My attorney is a PA for the county.

It is in a lot of states. It makes very little sense, but it's the reality on the ground.

Mike Anderson just tweeted that, should Petrino step down, he would be willing to quit his job as the basketball coach and become the football coach if they raise his salary by $11.
