View Full Version : Chiefs Is it safe to say now that Clark Hunt is a really good owner?

I had my doubts that Clark would have the chops to stand up and make sure this labor deal got done in a way that didn't hamper small market teams. But he must have, as he was involved heavily with the meetings, and now this deal almost looks too good to be true for us.

Seems like Clark Hunt has the cool-headed demeanor of his Dad, but is more assertive in how he runs the organization. Listening to him give interviews since taking over the job, he makes a lot of statements that indicate he sets clear goals and expectations with his organization, but at the same time does it in a fair and consistent manner. And now it seems he has proven he can get it done at the league level as well.

Is it time to recognize Clark Hunt is doing a really good job as owner? I don't think any of us thought he was doing poorly, but I do feel I might have still been underestimating him. Does he get credit for this small market-friendly deal?

In addition to Kraft, owners who've worked their tails off to get this done ... Richardson, Jones, Mara, Rooney, Hunt and Spanos were vital.

On players side, Foxworth, Saturday, Mawae, Kendall, Morey, Vrabel, McFarland, Batch, Richardson, Waters, Brees were driving forces.

we still have no idea what he did or didn't do for small markets.

maybe he did or maybe he just worked at general stuff.

Is Clark a good owner, in terms of his commitment to winning a championship? No

The Chiefs payroll was among the lowest in the league last year, when the salary floor was removed and he appears to be detached from the reality that his franchise hasn't even won a playoff game in 17 years.

Clark may have had a productive role in the CBA negotiations, but quite frankly I'd rather have an owner that is more focused on wins and losses than macro league matters.

I'm in school, work 40-50 hours a week to pay for EVERYTHING, while going to school with 15 credits per semester is seriously draining. I'm still holding a 3.5 GPA and after all of this I'm not even sure if I'll get a job out of it. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to go to grad school and take out student loans and even after all of that, I don't know if I'll be able to get a damn job!

I agree. He did go out and spend the money on one of the best G.M's. I think he does have a commitment to win.

As soon as he took over the team, he started a full rebuild through the draft path.

Exactly what he should have done if he wanted the team to have long term sustained success.

When you do that, you arent gonna spend a lot for a couple years in free agency...if you do, you take away the premise of rebuilding through the draft.

He went out and spend a couple hundred million dollars on the stadium, brought in the best GM available, paid for premium coaches...you know, all the things you should do if you are making your best run at truly "building through the draft".

I find it amazing people can hate on someone for something they have no control over nor have done anything to warrant the hate.

The jury will be out on Clark for a long time. So far, all he's done is win one AFC West, and that was barely. Sure, we're in better shape than the King Carl/Herm times, but so what? This is only year three past that rock bottom period. Still, this team's last playoff win was over a team that doesn't even exist any more (Houston Oilers) 18 years ago. Not exactly a shining beacon of success. Add another Lombardi Trophy, then we'll talk.

Here we go again. Clark Hunt doesn't care, because he is not Jerry Jones and interfering with the jobs he hired people to do.

One of the most important and very basic leadership rules, is to allow people to do the job you hired them for and succeed at it without interfering.
