Chiefs agreed to terms with WR Steve Breaston on a five-year contract with $9 million guaranteed.
The long-speculated move comes to fruition. We just can't help but think the Chiefs might live to regret this one. Breaston's right knee injury became so problematic down the stretch last season that he essentially lost his starting job to small-school rookie Andre Roberts. On the bright side, Breaston is a fairly young receiver (28) who when healthy can stretch the field and has familiarity with Todd Haley's offense. We suspect he'll end up playing more snaps than raw first-round rookie Jonathan Baldwin. It just won't be a good fantasy

Exactly! Jones had a better season than 30 of the top 50 RB's in the league and he did it while he's in his bedpan, walking cane, life alert, ensure drinking NFL years. While the other 3 guys were Pro bowlers in their years as Chiefs.

KC needs to win a Superbowl to shut those bastards up. And soon.

Well that's a given. I was talking about our passing game and the TE position specifically. T-Mo should be eating up the middle now. If they bring people up on the line then Bowe and Breaston are going to burn mother fuckers 1-1. If they play back JC is going to eat their lunch. Thus this opens up what should be a great opportunity for the PA Pass to T-Mo.

Still comes down to the line. When Cassel had time last year he was very effective, even in our dink-dunk system. Now we have 4 guys who can catch a "bad pass" so he doesn't have to be perfect, just relatively on target.

Vonnie Holliday, Shawn Barber and Dexter McCleon all seem pretty retready to me.

The whole thing falls on the front office. They didn't know how to build a team, only how to plug up holes. I think, with the obvious exception of Matt Cassel, this current Chiefs team is made up of exciting homegrown talent rather than the hope-they're-decent castoffs that made up past Chiefs teams. Definitely a step in the right direction.

All for the Breaston signing, though.

Chiefs agree to terms with Steve Breaston
Posted by Mike Florio on July 27, 2011, 8:16 PM EDT

It’s wide receiver day on the free-agent market. With Santonio Holmes and Sidney Rice signed to big-money deals, another lower-profile wideout has made the move to a new team.

A league source tells PFT that Steve Breaston has agreed to terms with the Chiefs on a five-year deal.

The move reunites Breaston with coach Todd Haley, who previously was the offensive coordinator in Arizona. In their last year together, Breaston generated 1,006 receiving yards.

The former Michigan Wolverine joins a receiving corps that features Dwayne Bowe and rookie first-rounder Jonathan Baldwin.

Breaston impressed us and plenty of others in June, with his heartfelt poem regarding the lockout.

Man, all I got to say is, we are pretty deep at WR for the first time in a while and it feels great!

We got a perfect slot guy now in Breaston. We basically drafted a guy in Baldwin who will improve our redzone offense a ton simply because he has great hands and leaping ability. And of course, our probowl WR in Bowe.

What else more can I say? Im just happy that our offense will open up more now because there are more options in the passing game.

What is McCluster going to do? Is he going to only be on for 4WR sets or will he run the ball more?
I know he under-produced last year but I blame a lot of that on his injury, and that he was a rookie. With that much raw talent I would hate to scrap him as a 2nd year player.

I think we'll call plays based on the match-ups. Some weeks Moeaki will get the nod more as TE and other weeks we'll see more Breaston and possibly 4 WR sets. We'll also be able to keep players fresher with quality depth.

I also believe we could possibly line up Moeki as a 4th WR on a couple of plays a game, similiar to how Tony G. did from time-to-time.

Being multi-faceted is the name of the game. I really like the move.

Meh, our schedule is tough this year. A lot of back-back road games in there as well. We are facing top-level talent more this year than last and teams like Detroit may be a suprise as well.

We face the Lions, Jets, Pats, Colts, Bears and Dolphins on the road.

We do have GB amd the Steelers here but they are still SB teams.

We got the Lions and Chargers the 2nd and 3rd games of the season and the Colts the 5th. All on the road. That's 3 of our first 5 games on the roads against good teams, assuming Detroit comes on.

We could be looking at 2-3 before the bye.

We should be a playoff team but SD is still the favorite. If our offensive line can handle the good defenses we are going to face this year then we have a shot but that is what is going to have to improve. I think the defense will hold it's own as even though we are playing tough teams, none of them are high scoring except maybe NE, IND and GB.

Cause they had the #1 offense and defense last year. They have a much better QB. We don't know if we are greatly improved over last year yet or not. SD had a lot less pieces to fix than we did. Their special teams cost them along with some just dumb turnovers. I am just saying, that if we get off to a slow start I don't know that we have the team to catch up like SD nortoriously does. This is the time of year to be optimistic...so to hell with it, I don't care who we have on the schedule, and I don't care what San Diego was ranked last year. San Diego is still butthurt over last year, they always start slow, and they have not done anything to improve as of yet. We had a good draft, and Pioli has only made one move so far. We have plenty of cap room, and the team that takes the field week 1 will be better than it was last year, and better than it is right now. I don't think it is unreasonable to believe the Chiefs can compete with any team in the NFL. And I think other teams are going to be more upset that we are on their schedule, than we are with the schedule we have.

We are not on the level of a Baltimore, Pitt, GB, or Jets yet.

We just don't have the talent.

I guess we could get lucky and "Marty" our way into a playoff bid but without a real QB and steady OL this team isn't winning $3it in the postseason next year.

Our secondary is ready for the postseason. I think our WR's (by the end of the season) might be ready.

But our Line play, running game, passing game, QB play, and run defense were $3it last year in the playoffs.

And that's when it really matters...

True 'dat, but it's nothing new. Everyone expects a playoff win without THE MOST IMPORTANT component on the field.

Whatever. Feel how you want.

This is the most talented D we've had since Marty left. I'd argue we have a much more competent DC now. I do expect a lot out of this D and I'm even more excited about the rookies we added this year.

I think we've (FINALLY!) added quality depth on the O line that's not only respectable depth but truly future starters (and hopefully studs.)

There's a very solid young foundation but to think all the parts just click this year with a b@$t@rd schedule after barely making the grade last year seems a bit much...

That is a fuckload of talent and it's spread across the team.

The Chiefs are one of the most talented, young teams in the league. Our roster is the envy of teams like Denver.

We lack two or three pieces but what team doesn't?

The good news is that the rest of the AFC West also has to play Green Bay, Chicago, New England, New York Jets as well. Yes, we have to play Pittsburgh and Indianapolis, and they don't, but they have to play us twice (division winner). We just have to make sure the Chiefs are tougher games for them, than the Steelers and Colts are for us.

And if we do win the West this year, we should be much more playoff ready than last season when we feasted on the NFC West.
