For those wondering, PUP list means Moeaki will not play for 1st 6 weeks, then he has 3 weeks to determine if he can play, or go on IR

This.

I thought KC had a certain amount of time to clear him before he would have to sit out the first six?

That's what I thought. Wright's tweet is kinda weird. 610 just sent out a text saying he has to miss first six weeks too. Not how I thought it worked in preseason.

Goddamn, Nick Wright is stupid.

He can be placed back on the roster at any time.

He only misses the 1st 6 games if he's still on PUP on opening day.

Wikipedia:

Physically Unable to Perform is the term for a rule in the National Football League which allows teams to designate players as "Physically Unable to Perform" or "PUP". Once they are designated as such, they are prohibited from practicing with the team. They can, however, rehabilitate and participate in team meetings. If a player begins training camp on the PUP list, they can be moved to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player is not allowed to be placed on the PUP list if they start training camp on the active roster, even if they take part in only the first few minutes of the first practice.

A player who begins the regular season on the PUP list must sit out his team's first six games. After that point, a team has three weeks to start having the player practice; once the player begins practicing, the team has another three weeks to put the player on the active roster. If the player is not activated by that time, or if he does not begin practicing within that three week window, he must remain on the PUP list for the remainder of the season.

There is no way they would place him on PUP if it meant he couldn't play the first 6 weeks. That has to be wrong. I know he was battling some injuries at the end of the season. I'm sure that is most of it.

Chiefs' Tony Moeaki On PUP List; Injury Isn't Serious

We've been talking about the Kansas City Chiefs surprises in free agency and there's one we've yet to note -- TE Tony Moeaki is starting camp on the physically unable to perform list (PUP). This according to Aaron Wilson of National Football Post.

A league source tells us he had a knee injury worked on after the season but it's nothing serious. The team isn't concerned and this is just a precaution. He'll be ready to roll for the start of the season.

The PUP list isn't a big deal during training camp as Moeaki can (and will) come off soon and start working with the team on the field. However, if a player is on the PUP list at the start of the regular season, that's a concern because he'll be out for the first six games. A player isn't allowed to start camp on the active roster and then be reverted to PUP so the safe move is to start him on PUP in camp.

For the Chiefs, this is good news. Folks talk about the addition of WR Jonathan Baldwin and WR Steve Breaston and teaming them with WR Dwayne Bowe but perhaps the most reliable receiving option for the Chiefs is Moeaki.

We're used to good tight ends in this city so Moeaki's contributions in 2010 was nice to see.

So stand down, Chiefs fans. You can stop wondering if the Chiefs will sign TE Todd Heap.
