Jeopardy! Host Alex Trebek got injured on Wednesday while he was chasing a female burglar that took several items from his hotel room. The thief was caught but Trebek snapped his Achilles tendon and went under surgery, Us magazine reports.
On Wednesday, the TV show host Alex Trebek, who present one of the most popular TV shows, “Jeopardy!”, caught a burglar in his hotel room while he was in Mountain View, California. He was there to host the National World Championship at Google. According to him, an unknown person entered his room at 2:30 in the morning. It was a woman who stole some money and things, among which a bracelet that Trebek had received from his mother.
The woman was caught and was identified as Lucinda Moyers. After stealing the cash and items from the TV host’s room, she hid them near an ice machine placed on the floor where Trebek’s room was. The woman, who is 56 years old, was arrested by the San Francisco Police and was changed with burglary and receiving stolen goods.
Before the police arrived to the place, Trebek explains how he woke up in the middle of the night and realized someone was in his room while he and his wife, Jean, were sleeping. He retold the story for the “Today” Show on Thursday and even mentioned he was sleeping nude. “I immediately realized someone had been in the room,” he told host Matt Lauer. “I put on my underwear and ran down the hall to see if I could find her.” He chased the woman down, but got severely injured. “My Achilles tendon ruptured and I fell in an ignominious heap to the carpeting, bruising my other leg in the process,” he told to the local TV channel, ABC7. Trebek, who is 71 years old, went under surgery on Friday and after recovering he is set to be in a cast for six weeks.
