People are overrating Shannon's out of surprise that they could understand it. Emmitt Smith's was way better to me (though, come to think of it, that speech is also benefiting from the same surprise factor).

Oh, it was plenty good. But the internet is in a flurry to crown it best HoF induction speech ever. I find it to have been too reliant on repetition, forced profundity, and cliche to be the best ever.

FWIW, I enjoyed his speach. It was interesting to see and hear about the bond between him, his brother, sister, and grandmother. The drive that was instilled into them to be great no matter what... a no matter what that included the neglection of Shannons own children... in order to get where he now is in life.

The part about being told by one of the assistant coaches that he was going to be cut after the last preseason game against the Cardinals was very good. As was the part about his first regular season game with Elway, and how Elway helped him through that game.

A very good speach. Much more humble than I anticipated.
