I did put "(s)" at the end of my title in case others want to post video clips of other "cool but useless" inventions.

It could be fun.

A note to the usual suspects:

"You are not cool Frankie but useless,...... Ha, ha, ha, ha."

There,... I did it for you. You can now stay away from this thread unless you want to post a clip that fits the thread title.

LAS VEGAS — A New Jersey company says it has developed "the world's first sex robot," a life-size rubber doll that's designed to engage the owner with conversation rather than lifelike movement.
The real aim, he said, is to make the doll someone the owner can talk to and relate to. ROFL

Bah you're just bitter that it didn't crash in mid air.

But seriously do you actually really think this is useless?

Then please by all means tell us why you think it's useless.

You see I can come up with many reasons of why research in this is not only useful but vital.

First studying the flight mechanisms of birds, you have what a billion years of natural selection in making a successful flight mechanism. Think that nature hasn't done something right and we have nothing to learn?

Second you do understand the value of light weight flight research right? UAVs that can loiter for days. Solar powered aircraft that don't need traditional power sources to fly.

Really just because you don't understand it, that doesn't make it useless.

I think the invention of the ball busting poster is useless.

Sure did.

Although she wasn't useless. She had a very talented mouth.

Artificial women are going to be nagging the hell out of their men and then lying there like a dead fish during sex? I'm sure men everywhere will be lining up for this.

No not really. I said that in a tongue in cheek manner. I do believe there will be an application from something that might originate from this, like most all inventions. The email that someone sent me about this was titles "Airplane that flies by flapping its wings" as if this would be a precursor to a revolution in Aircraft design. Given the multitude of motions that make this birds flight possible I still can't see it as a valid manned aircraft design.

I think it would become very popular the people that want to fly and don't care about speed, just being able to fly. Alot of people fly in balloons which are not that controllable. This would be great for slow flight. I think it would be a hit, if you could build one big enough to hold passengers.

It looks like (from the video) to achieve this kind of flight there has to be considerable movement of the body of the bird which would have to be the fuselage.

I don't think that adds up to comfortable passengers.

I would think it would be more for sport, fun, not actually travel. Jet skis and rocket packs are not comfortable, but are fun.
