View Full Version : Chiefs Relatively early late-night bullshit: my big board and the 2011 draft.

This isn't that important of a topic and it's not really necessitated by anything other than a convo I'm having with BossChief in another thread about (who else) Stanzi. So I'm putting it in the "late night bullshit" category, such as it is.

It involved me looking up my big board that I was slowly assembling on this board less than two weeks before the draft.

Here it is: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=244044

Of the players we drafted, here's how they shook out on my big board:

We drafted Baldwin #26 overall. He was #32 on my big board. We took Hudson at 55. He's 59 on my board. We took Houston at 70. He was 20th on my board, lol. We took Bailey at 86. He was 33rd on my board. we took Jalil Brown at 118. I accidentally didn't have him listed on my board at all (c'mon, I listed nearly 200 players) but I would have had him as a late round talent had I remembered. Ricky Stanzi at 135? 48 on my board. Jerrell Powe at 199. He's 101 on my board. I didn't have Gabe Miller or Shane Bannon. Just kind of interesting to see the discrepancy between what some random asshole on the internet sees and what Scott Pioli's scouting department sees.

Ah, fortunately I posted my more complete big board on another website.

I had Jalil Brown at 163 on my board.

Interesting note: David Mims was right before him at 162. HA.

Here's a gem of mine from that other website:

Pat Kirwan of NFL Radio and NFL.com said he’d say it’s “very likely” Iowa QB Ricky Stanzi ends up a Kansas City Chief, considering he’s a smart game manager from a program Pioli loves. I think we’d have to reach in the 3rd to get him.

How'd you have Allen Bailey so high?

Kiper and Mayock called Stanzi a second round talent prior to the draft

I liked Allen Bailey a ton as an undertackle in the 4-3. I thought he would have done extremely well with the Bucs or the Colts or the Bears. Such a great passrusher from the interior.

I did not see him particularly adept at doing something like a 3-4 DE, but lord knows he's got the ability for it.

If it's not DC you can't post earlier than 10:49pm. Get bent.

haha

I was very vocal about Baldwin, Stanzi, Brown, Powe and I think Oakland took the guy we may have had targeted at center that I was very vocal about in Wisnewski a few picks before ours, I think he would have been our pick for future center if he were to have been available.

Other than that, I didnt want Houston (but as our first rounder...as a third I was on cloud 9) ... Bailey, Miller and Bannon kind of caught me off guard.

I admittedly didnt know much about Bailey before we chose him.

I'd say the Bailey pick threw me for the biggest loop.

I was not expecting that at all.

From what I've heard, Jalil Brown looks really good so far. That was a bit of a WTF pick, but I'm now firmly ensconced in the Pioli bootlicker camp.

I really want to know how Hudson's doing. Haven't heard shit about him.

Jalil had a really nice pass break up in PSG1

I can't believe Stanzi fell past #1 overall. Do NFL teams not like Tom Brady?

You could focus on him next time you watch the game.

He was doing pretty damn good against second stringers.

I was a fan of Browns before the combine, then he ran his drills and Deion chimed in with some really high praise and I became sold.

The more research I did on him prior to the CP Mock, the more I had to shut the fuck up about him if I was gonna have a chance at drafting him.

And I did.
