I subleased an office once to a guy who was the biggest waste of skin I've ever seen. You couldn't believe a word the guy said, and he puffed himself up like he was a big deal when we had to battle him to get our rent money every month. When he left, he left behind some stuff that we eventually pitched, but there was one big piece of equipment that we thought would be worth some money, so we contacted the manufacturer to ask if they had a repurchase program or something. They said he'd ordered it and never paid for it, and would we please send it back?

He was the "CEO of a publicly traded company", which was a penny stock. As far as I could tell, the company had zero assets, zero products, zero sales, and as far as I could see, no prospects. But it was a real penny stock that was traded, and I figure people probably bought it thinking it was real.

I looked him up the other day, and he's got all sorts of tall tales he's telling now. I will never, ever buy a penny stock after meeting that guy.

But they are just now starting to show profit and I just figure throwing a thousand at a chance to hit it big is worth the gamble. Lord knows I've blown enough money on crap that offers no return. Also I know a guy that hit it on a penny stock about 5 years ago and became quite wealthy. He was able to quit his job and follow his dreams which just happenned to be joining the army and going to Afghanistan

Just be careful with what you believe. A good portion of penny stocks (depending on where they're traded) don't require financial disclosures to be audited, so it can be quite a while until made-up sales are discovered. I had a buddy lose about $8K in penny stocks a couple of years ago. A good portion was on a company called Spongetech, who had made up a bunch of customers and sales and published a completely bogus 10-Q.
