You can't tackle QB's. You must hug them and ask them to lay down.

There not, Goodell is making this into the National Flag football League. Enjoy.

+2. WTF? No hit to the QB's head shot, not leading with the helmet, not late. Seriously, WTF?

I don't know if it's a case of officiating generally being worse this preseason, or the refs being under orders to protect the "big name QB's" at all costs.

It was not even close to being a late hit.
There was no helmet to helmet hit.

Doesn't even need to be "helmet to helmet". If you hit the QB's head with your arm, that alone is gonna get you a flag.

But this was....nothing. Nothing at all. A hard hit but perfectly legal far as I can see. I would love to hear whoever has replaced Perreira's explanation for this.

I've seen RTP called on DLineMen who grazed the Qb's shoulder pad with their arm 1 split second after the ball left his hand. It's out of control.

Surely you, a NE fan, remembers Peyton's RTP in the 2006-07 AFC Championship. I was totally non biased watching that game, and that was the saddest call I've ever seen. I rooted for NE after that, sadly they lost, and those extra 15 yards may have been the difference.

Goodell should be fired immediately for this crap.

They're sending the message to all Defensive Players throughout the league by targeting their packetbooks now - let offenses score, don't play football. Goodell needs the ratings so his term as Commissioner can be extended. It's a business first and all....

Normally that would only draw a flag if it was Tom Brady~

I cant believe that.

I think, in the future, a Defense should be allowed to release a group of crazed Pitt Bulls to take Vick down. Just to avoid a penalty of course.

Just take off the helmet and pads, give them flags and be done with it.

OMG officiating of late is screwing the game up!

The kickoff rull sucks ass too. So does the auto touchdown review.

Yah that was a pretty piss ant call...I can sort of see how it could appear he lead with his helmet if you were at one angle....But yah..It was just a great hit really.

First of all, I say textbook. I hate these lame calls just as much as all of you.

If I'm going to look at this from the other side, though, I would venture to say the problem with the hit wasn't a lead with the helmet, late, or launching thing, but rather the "driving into the ground." I think I've even heard a ref use that term before and that's about the only thing I can see that would have caused this ref to throw his flag so quickly.

I say again, though, I hate the call, and I don't see how what happened could have been avoided unless the defender just gave up when he had a golden opportunity on the QB....which I guess is what Goodell is after.

As a former HS QB who played behind an inferior line I generally have a soft spot for QBs and am all in favor of protecting them. But there was nothing in these hits that seemed out of the ordinary or excessive. Jeebus, you're playing football! The red practice jerseys are off and you're fair game (within reason). The pussification of the NFL continues, no touching the QB, no kick returns, next thing they'll do is take the pads off, put 7 guys on the field a side and call it the National Flag Football League.

Yeah, I've heard "driven into the ground" used to justify BS backbreaking 15 yard penalties on hits many times in the past. I usually get sick to my stomach after hearing those words.

You know ESPN's Jacked Up"? imagine the weak ass sh*t that's gonna be in the Top 10 five years from now - It'll just be 10 normal run of the mill wrap arounds.

What the fuck?

That was an absolutely perfect hit. Head up, across the body and planted on the chest, drove with his legs and took the man to the ground.

Vick got hit hard because...well it's a man's game and a 200+ lb person just sprinted into his chest. If Vick doesn't want to take that shot, he's free to move away from the pressure before he throws.

That was perfectly clean football.

If I were playing in the league, as somebody suggested in another thread, I would put some flags around my waist the next game i played.

The fine would be well worth it.

By the way....
Phil Taylor was the guy I wanted to draft. I think we may have done okay with bringing in Baldwin, but based on the Browns game last night, Taylor might become an absolute beast. Watch that second clip of him and how he just flat out dominates his man.

No thanks. Hes had questionable work ethic and hustle in camp so far.

Right now, there's as much evidence to say he's had a questionable work ethic as Baldwin.

I don't buy it. Taylor played into the 3rd quarter and was playing very well. Given how late he signed and how little time he's had to get into football shape, and the position he plays at the weight he plays it at, I don't know how much stock I'd put into that.

I heard a report on ESPN that the ref thought that Vick was getting trashed so badly in the game that they just had to step in. They should have flagged Philly's line for failure to protect the QB.

Well then it's perfectly acceptable.... The NFL Officitating crew using ESPN to cover their asses = pathetic.
