Has anyone ever had tendonitis in their shoulder? I have pain whenever I extend my arm or reach behind me. The pain is on the back side of the arm/shoulder, about halfway between the actual shoulder joint and the triceps. Its too low to be a rotator cuff, and one of the trainers at my gym said its probably tendonitis.

I’ve quit lifting weights for the last 4 to 6 weeks, due to the pain. I even took a day where I strapped it in a sling and didn’t move it for the whole day and kept ice on it. But it isn’t getting any better, and especially hurts in the morning. Anyone know how long this sh1t lasts or a way to get rid of it?

I'm trying to avoid going to the doctor, since my BS new health plan at work consists of me paying out of pocket for office visits (and pretty much everything else until I hit a $2000 deductible).

Could also be Bursitis. I had bursitis in my shoulder once and it took a few months of trying to not use the shoulder before it went away.

Could be a tendon. Not something to screw around with. If damaged, they only get worse, at that leads to surgery.

Does it involve some sort of saw or antifreeze?

not significant. sometimes when its sore in the morning, the soreness extends either up ny neck or down my arm a few inches.

As long as you haven't smoked any weed within the last 90 days you should be fine.

I tore up my labrum a few years ago. What I felt in the beginning is what you're describing now. Could be that, or could just be a pinched nerve. I'd suggest getting an MRI if you have the means.

Time to jerk off with the other arm. :)

I hate the new BS health plans. I'm lucky that my employer, even though everyone else is on the new plan (which is $2500 for us), still offered me the "traditional" plan.

I'm also not too keen on getting an MRI, since I have a metal plate and pins in the hand on that same arm.

No upper back issues? A herniated disk can cause pain elsewhere. When I had lower back problems, my right leg and even foot at times hurt. Nerve endings and such.

If this is the future of healthcare, it seems to be the opposite of where we were supposed to be heading.

Stop standing right next to the microwave when you're popping popcorn. Problem solved.

nope. unless "upper back" means "base of the neck". in the morning, it sometimes actually feels like I've done a shoulder/trapezius workout (the one where you hold heavy weights and shrug)

Labrum injuries are a bitch. I tore both of my labrums playing football.

And I thought that there was a new, smaller MRI machine on the market, not the huge, clunky tube you have to lay in for 45 minutes?

Yeah, my shoulder still pops like hell from time to time. Sounds like a .22 being fired.

Sounds like you may have issues in the cervical area of your spine. A pinched nerve or disc degeneration will cause the problems you have listed. Do you pop your neck often and have done it for years?

Get it checked out. Health is much more important than $. I have torn RC's in both shoulders and a sprained and arthritic AC joint.

Picking up a glass of water is painful some days.

Trying to put off surgery as long as possible because the rehab sucks.

Bursitis feels like a knife is stuck in your shoulder. The pain intensifies are you raise your arm. It can be hard to get rid of. If your doctor determines you have bursitis, I've got a solution that eliminated my 18 month old case in 7 days.

7 years ago I had work done on my shoulder for impingement tendanitis. Basically I had a bone spur that one of my upper shoulder tendons was rubbing on. They went in and sawed off the spur and shortened the tendon. That one is fine. Different area though because it hurt on the top of my shoulder.

In the last few weeks I've noticed a kind of a catch with a little pain in almost the same place you're talking about except mine is more on the outside of my arm not behind. Halfway down and everything. Comes and goes though so it's not as bad as yours.

I'll be interested to hear what you find out.

actually yes!

Sometimes multiple times a day, and have done it for as long as I can remember.

Everyone thinks its weird or gross how loud it is and how easy it is for me to do it.

Have you started to lose feeling down either arm, having it go numb or your fingers, namely the forefinger or thumb thingle at times?

dude, I'm screwed it seems; I pop my neck at least 10 times a day. lol

No.

The only thing somewhat like that is that my left forearm (near the wrist)gets "tired" while I'm typing at work, but I figure that's because I type at a somewhat weird arm angle and slumped in my chair (when I correct my posture, it goes away). But that's on the other arm, so I can't imagine it would be related.

Probably just an irritation at C5-C6 if it has to do with your neck. It will probably go away or lessen after some time. Dr.'s will tell you not to pop your neck as it can cause the problems to intensify but damn it feels so good. Weren't you at Nzoner's a couple of year's ago?

Yeah, I've been there the last 3 or 4 years.

Thanks for the advice. I assume you have some sort of expertise on the subject and not just a crackpot :D

It'd be pretty hard to get over the neck-popping. My body is so used to it I think I do it involuntarily.

I do that all also. I used to compete in arm wrestling and my elbow started giving me trouble. I could not even extend my arm out. I took cortisone/ steroid shot a couple times. The last time was several years ago and it gives me no problems at all. I also do not compete anymore so that may have solved the problem~

If it hurts in the morning then you might be sleeping on it funny every night and aggravating it. Try wearing the sling while you sleep.

If you keep rolling around and pulling it out of the sling in your sleep then use an ace bandage or something to tie it in a sling position to your torso.

That's what I've thought. I don't do anything strenuous during the day, but frequently wake up at night due to the pain, and realize I'm sleeping on it in a weird angle. I've tried a simple wrap at night, but I work my way out of it as I sleep. I may have to buy multiple wraps and do it up mummy style.

I'm pretty sure that chick in your Avatar has tendonitis in both shoulders...probably from all the repetitive motion.

This is kind of generic, but I eat a lot of 'anti-inflammatory' foods and that seems to help with a lot of my aches & pains. Might not fix this, but it's an easy fix if it does work. First step, add more curry powder (turmeric), ginger and chile to your diet. A tasty fix. More info (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/12/health/webmd/main4443788.shtml)

For joint problems, this guy suggests you try: turmeric (http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=78) Be well.
