View Full Version : Chiefs Who would you re-sign? Flowers or Carr?

Assuming the Chiefs choose to sign one player to a long-term deal.

Flowers would command more, but Carr has also been a really solid, underrated CB. I don't think the Chiefs will sign both of them to long-term deals, although I hope they do.

Personally, I think you would pay for Flowers and hope Arenas turns into something special, if not average.

I think Arenas is going to turn into something special. I'd still sign both guys.

Lol. I was thinking about making this thread today but figured I'd wait till mid season. BTW...I was going to add a poll...

I honestly think the better choice may be Carr. Carr seems much less injury prone.

I only posted it because of this:

Chiefs LCB Brandon Flowers says he has not heard anything from the team regarding an upcoming contract extension.
Flowers is due just $555,000 in this last year of his rookie deal. A ballhawk (nine interceptions, four forced fumbles in three seasons) and man-to-man maven, Flowers has quietly emerged as one of the better corners in football at age 25. He was Pro Football Focus' third overall cornerback in the league last season, ranking second to only Champ Bailey in coverage.

With 32million in cap space you can sign both.

When you have the space we do and are trying to continue to build a winner you resign both. We are not at a point where we can afford letting any talent walk.

I think we can. I think Arenas is going to be gangbusters. That said, I think Carr will come cheap enough to lock him down and take no chances.

I agree with this post, but to address the original question, I think over the long term that Carr is actually going to be the better CB, so I'd sign him first.

The great thing, though, is that I think they are both going to be among the best at their position for a long time.

For how cheap they have been lately they have absolutely no excuse for not re-signing both players.

I'd probably release both. Just to send a statement to everyone not to fuck with us.

I still believe pass defense begins in the front 7 with a legitimate pass rush, but the secondary has become more important to the equation over the years.

I hope, and think, we will keep both.

this ... if we aren't spending in Free agency then we keep our existing talent.

Totally agree, a secondaries best friend is a good pass rush.

I have yet to see the team named the offseason/free agency champion actually win anything.

And who knows maybe Jalil Brown and Arenas both amount to something. Speaking of Brown, how had he looked in preseason?

So far from NFL ready? I think resigning Carr and Flowers depends more on how Arenas and Brown develope, more so Arenas though.

Arenas is too small and slow to be an outside CB.

which is really irrelevant to the point.

you either spend money in free agency or you spend it on your own players.

That isn't what you said.

I tend to agree with you, but I was scratching my head when you said that Arenas was too small and slow, when Flowers is roughly the same.

Okay, I wasn't scratching my head.

I was on my way to post that you're a dumbass.

Oh, I thought it was about speed and size.

Arenas is talented and made some good plays last year. As long as he continues to improve, he can be a good nickel/outside corner. I don't really like BOTH my outside corners being than small though. He's not in Flowers league yet though, obviously.

--------------

Hopefully we can sign both Carr and Flowers to extensions. I worry that Flowers may want high tier dollars, which he really hasn't earned yet. He looks like he has the talent, but really hasn't been consistenly top five corner in the league. Hopefully they are both extended during the season so our next offseason we can focus on Bowe.

I think there's a difference between track speed and football speed.

Arenas was drafted to play the nickle position, and he was pretty good at that last year. I just don't like him starting as an outside corner. If we were unable to sign both Flowers and Carr, I think Brown would replace one of them before Arenas (unless Brown turns outs to completely suck).

Arenas did nothing but get better in coverage last year. There is plenty of upside and at the very least quality debth.

With the way the salary cap situation sits in KC and the way both of these guys have been ascending I don't know why it's one or the other? Sign both!

If the Chiefs want to compete for a championship they will, if both of these guys play lights out this season and they let one walk... :shake:

Listening to 810 on the way home. KK had Kevin Harlan on. Harlan said he was talking to Fitzpatrick this week and he mentioned something interesting. Said they gameplanned more for Carr, and that he was the one to look out for on the field and not Flowers. Thought that was interesting...
