... our #1 D looking lost in the first couple of drives of each game. I saw that in some regular season games as well last year and I hope it's not become a KC Chiefs signature.

As improved as we are on paper we cannot afford to start getting it together 14 points behind with the regular season opponents we will have.

Thoughts?

My concern after watching that early drive is that teams will target Studebaker at the LOLB position all year long in the run game. They need to get Houston or Sheffield on the field early and often. That's what I see as really the only vulnerable spot on the field now.

Offensively, I've relaxed a little. They looked I thought a good deal better than the last three weeks, even in the stalled first drive, and I think they might just be okay against Buffalo, which was I believe what Haley's intention was. But we'll see. Only time will tell.

The Chiefs are soft against the run. Gonna be a long season if they can't fix it. People will say stuff like,"If it wasn't for that 1 long run we'd have been ok." Problem is they will be saying it every game.

Agree in part but the problems against the run are two-tier. The DL has a several weak links that will also be exploited....

Seems pretty clear to me that when you have Studebaker & Jackson on the same side, that screams to me weak link and teams are taking advantage of it.

I think Houston will replace Studebaker soon enough so I'm not too concerned about that.

But Tyson, wow. Really missing Shaun Smith right about now.

I don't agree that we'll win "8 if we're lucky" and I'll tell you why. It's is because of our division. We were 2-4 last year within the division. If we dramatically improve there, winning 10 games is very possible.

Meh, in the preseason, not all teams fully open their playbooks. I think that probably explains our O.

But this thing about falling into an early hole is a bad trend with the Chiefs that goes back a few years with us. I want to see our D come out aware and clicking at the very beginning of the games. A little frustrating when they seem to sleepwalk through the first couple of enemy drives.

Why do people keep saying our division sucks? Yeah, the Donkeys suck, but that's about it.

SD has Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates back healthy. Phillip Rivers is an Elite QB. Chiefs fans, it's time for you guys to accept it. As long as Rivers is in the Division, the Chargers will always be a division contender.

Oakland Returns with #2 Rushing Offense in the NFL and they pounded the division last year
....

Yeah, Denver, you suck.

It's going to take 11 wins to take the division, at least.

Our division always plays us tough. I remember when SD was 1-15 and we were their one and only win. They play us hard no matter what. But I don't think anyone in our division will fare as well against the rest of the schedule.
I would be pretty shocked if anyone in the AFC west gets 11 wins this year.

is it stude or jackson or both?

i thought jackson looked like his usual puss self...i didn't catch much of the 2nd half...I don't think Jackson's a puss as much I think he doesn't always do what exactly what he's supposed to. Which in this defense is a big deal. But I do think he does an adequate job of occupying his guy(s).

I think too many people (and I don't mean you when I'm saying this, just making a general comment...) are expecting the wrong thing from our d-line. This is not the Cowboys defense, these guys are not busting upfield to make plays in the backfield. That's just not their role. And I think failing to grasp that is what leads to so many people (starting with the media) complaining about Jackson and (I'm expecting...) Gregg and even Dorsey. Not taking down ball carriers in the backfield and not sacking quarterbacks does not mean they're playing poorly. Because, basically, the only time they get to go after guys is when a blocking assignment is completely whiffed. The rest of the time it's boring old trench work. Now if they get blown off the ball, that's another story. But most of the time their job is about holding people up so the linebackers are free to do their thing.

And unfortunately, Studebaker doesn't appear to be able to do that a lot of the time. He's not very agile or quick laterally, he doesn't have any speed in pursuit and he doesn't have the experience and knowledge that in the past let Vrabel compensate (to a degree) for those same limitations. I think we're going to see a lot of people targetting the left side of the defense this year, and while some of that may well be Jackson (he's not Dorsey...), I think the real weak link is Stude. Too many running plays this preseason have been stalled at the line, and then taken outside where he doesn't have the speed to cut them off before they get the corner.

Don't get me wrong I like both Sheff and Houston better that Studebaker. I don't know about last night but in the previous games a lot of the opponents' success in their initial drives were due to our players over shooting the backfield and playing themselves out of the play.

Both Sheff and Houston's styles are more aggressive than Studey's. Though as non-starters they had little involvement in the 1st couple of drives once they are in they have to learn to protect against overplaying the rush.

If there's 1 thing I'm pissed about after that game, it's this:

The Bake has done nothing to establish himself, and is being outplayed by his back-ups. Why not let Houston/Sheffield get some time in with the 1's?

You know what sucks about these last 5 games for me...

I am unable to predect the future of the NFL like you guys... Shit its a long season and I cant predict injuries, games and stats...

So All I can say is I am glad they can actually play the games, otherwise you guys would just fold the team permanently out of fear...

I need to see Houston and The Sheriff play better in run support before I go crying that Studebaker should be benched.I don't disagree with either of those statements. Well, no, I do disagree with "players overshooting the backfield and playing themselves out of plays". That doesn't happen much with the starters. But I'm not saying Sheffield and Houston should start now. I am saying that I think Studebaker is a weak link and I hope one of them is ready at some point during the season (I expect they both will be).

And in the end, if it's about a young guy learning, I will take overpursuit over not able to reach the play 7 days a week and twice on Sunday. But that's just me. Call it the price of doing business

yeah, I know. it felt feeble to me too. my heart just isn't in it. I mean, it gets rather monotonous and boring with the same old insults. y'know?

I mean, if I was feeling creative, I could break out a burqa joke. I could make another geriatric comment. I could make a suicide bomber joke. the material is endless, yet I revert to the old stuff? I'm disappointed in me too. :(

Your boyfriend told us you were locked in a 69. Nice to see you can type in that position. What else is your specialty? Oh, wait, just tell me when we meet.

In the Ram's game it seemed like it was happening on every other play in the Ram's first two drives.

... our #1 D looking lost in the first couple of drives of each game. I saw that in some regular season games as well last year and I hope it's not become a KC Chiefs signature.

As improved as we are on paper we cannot afford to start getting it together 14 points behind with the regular season opponents we will have.

Thoughts?

About the crisis that fell of the face of the world.

See me world. Kill the dissenter.

Why?

Not that it matters in the big picture of things, but Sheffield, in the first three preseason games has played better in run support than Studebaker.

But Studebaker offers you nothing at that spot.

Both Houston and Shef are far more athletic and faster and will make more plays by accident than Studebaker will by design.

Can't wait to pull this up right before the playoff game.

I think someone else fell off the wagon. Mark that post for us.

I had your personal info within five minutes of hitting google. not many people named gholem or fariba in iowa, dude. the different spellings of the last name didn't make it hard either. wanna make this personal? go ahead and keep typing.

Wow, I was right with this OP. The difference? In the pre-season we can make some sort of a comeback because the opponent is probably playing vanilla or has already pulled some starters out after their 2nd drive. In the real game we do not have that luxury.

This trend really scares me. We simply fall behind too quickly!

The Chiefs looked exactly how they did in preseason. So, I'd be concerned. With the hard schedule, it was imperitave that the they get off to a quick start. For them to be as ill-prepared as they were to start the season is a knock on the coaching staff and their "plan."

Also, the injuries have pretty much nullified the "improvements".

And also the fact that after winning the division last year, Opponents take us more seriously this year. That is until we prove they shouldn't. :(
