I know it has to do with the red in the image and there's a reason some people cannot distinguish between green and red. But if you look closely at the patterns and trace stuff you see the illusion that they are trying to create.
Also, I'm not buying the photoshop crap. All computers colors are slightly different due to different screens and digital variations. It's absolutely a horrible way to claim it's true.
There's a reason we have pantone colors and there's a reason I work with artists, graphic artists, who insist on pantone color numbers to create the right color match. They use computers to create graphic images but when you go to print those images, they use pantones.
Never rely on your computer to accurately tell you what color you are looking at. Sorry.

LOL... that's not how it works dude. You're confusing the process of matching a computer monitor's color output with accurate color, and the actual ability of a computer to detect color input(Photoshop dropper match). Outputting correct color on a monitor is very very different than comparing the colors of two color sample inputs.
Comparing two color inputs to see how closely they match is done without relying on the monitor output. So what DaFace is saying is 100% correct. You could turn off all output color except for green on a computer monitor, and still be able to accurately compare two colors of red on the computer itself. The color output accuracy of the monitor is completely irrelevant to the ability to compare colors internally on the computer.
And FYI... it's actually quite easy to color calibrate your computer monitor so you can match what you see on the monitor and what prints out of the printer. True graphic artists have tools like the following, to accurately match their monitor color with the exact pantone color:
http://www.adorama.com/ICVS4EL100.html?gclid=CIa_vubT2bcCFUJlMgodtTsAkQ
That way you can indeed accurately rely on your computer to tell you what color you're looking at.

I don't see how this one can be...
Each of the diamonds is identical, but they are all shaded from lightest on the top to darkest on the bottom. Our minds are "anchored" into thinking that the top row is dark by the light background. As you've seen with the other two examples of this phenomenon in the thread, our eyes perceive color relative to their surroundings, so the rest of it seems like it's getting lighter because each row is comparing a darker color (bottom of the diamond) to a lighter color (top of the diamond).
I loaded this up in Photoshop and copied the diamond from one row and then just moved it all over the place. Sure enough - it blends right in no matter where you put it.

The orange spirals only go through one of the stripes, the pink spirals only go through the other stripe. The two stripes are the same color, the addition of the pink or the orange going through them makes them look different.

you must be color blind too? And, where was I proven wrong about OP? I never said anything about any of the other optical illusions. I'm just saying the optical illusion in the OP is not right. Then the post which proves the illusion doesn't even match with the OP, the colors are clearly different.

The only difference between the proof pic and the OP pic, is the pink and orange colors being completely removed. And it's done so to show that the green stripes are really the same color.
Zoom in to the OP pic like 200%, and take a piece of paper with a little hole cut in it. Cut two holes, one on both of the green stripes so that's all you can see. Compare the colors on your own monitor through a small enough frame of reference where the other colors aren't shown.
Try it.

ok, I blew it up to and you are right, the orange becomes much more apparent and the colors change, that is, the blue and green become more alike. But I still wonder if this would work when not on a computer.

Tombstone, it doesn't matter where the colors are reproduced, the effect is the same be it on paper, plastic, metal or your screen. When you did Fish' experiment, the piece of paper didn't magically change the colors on your screen, it was still producing the same exact colors before you covered it up with said piece of paper.
The green/blue stripes are the same color and the pattern of colors around them make your brain perceive them as totally different.
Your disbelief is, really, just evidence of how good that optical illusion is.

The easiest way is to focus on comparing the sizes of the alternating squares 'between' the lines [light and dark blue] instead of the medium blue train.

About your score: A lower score is better, with ZERO being a perfect score. The circle graph displays the regions of the color spectrum where your hue discrimination is low.

This funky phenomenon is called Chromostereopsis. It is a visual illusion that occurs when certain colors are placed alongside each other, making it unnecessarily difficult to focus on both colors. The illusion is due to the respective wavelengths stimulating different areas within the eye. Basically confusing how the brain processes colors.
My edit:
Note that most people see the above image with the red layer being visually "above" the blue layer. A much smaller number of people see the blue layer being "above" the red layer. A very small number of people are just color blind enough to see absolutely no difference between the perceived height difference in the colors.
Personal note, I for one have noticed this phenomenon is BWillie's signature. If anybody else has sigs enabled, please check out BWillie's partifular sig and see if it looks the same to you if you notice the difference in this pic.
Does the effect show up in this pic for others? Making the blue text look oddly vertically displaced in depth compared to the red text?

So does it mean I'm crazy that I see the blue as above the red and that it appears to move while the red is completely stationary?
