According to Petro. Couldn't find a link. The cop made him take a breathalyzer as a passenger in a car of someone who wasn't drinking.

He blew a whopping .04.

By the way, what right does the cop have to force such a test on a passenger of a car? Is this a common occurance? I've never heard of that before, especially if the driver is sober.

Meh, it's bullcrap. You're old enough to carry a gun for uncle sam you're old enough to drink.

Absolutely. And don't forget voting, as well.

I would guess not, but cops are pretty good at convincing you they have the right to do whatever the fuck they want.

Now a millionaire can't even enjoy a few drinks? Bubba probably slept with his wife or something.

Was he in a car with Chico Lind, and nobody had any pants on?

This was all I could find:

"Sources told me last night... and the Royals confirmed this morning Bubba Starling received a citation for minor in possession in Arizona."

Because there's likely a hell of a lot more to the story than "cop asks random kid to take breathalyzer".

PO has to have had probable cause or it is in Arizona's implied consent law for the state.
Bigger question is why he wrote it up and did not just warn him in order to protect him from all the scrutiny/publicity associated with this event. He had to have known who Bubba was and could have used his judgment to handle it on the spot. Just my opinion.
If Bubba was mouthy to him then I'm with the PO but it seems unlike Bubba to do that.

Why does he have to know? I don't know who he is.

Sounds about like when Bob Dole got both a MIP and a contributing to the delinquency of a minor in the same stop... Everyone in the vehicle got an MIP and Bob Dole, being the oldest minor, got the contributing. (Lawyer beat both, btw.)

That had to be the most uneventful sobriety checkpoint in the history of checkpoints if the cops were giving breathalyzers to passengers.

That's great. Obviously you provided the booze, being the oldest kid unable to buy the booze. Never mind that 15 year old Ricky just lifted the case of beer from his dad's beer fridge that he never checks.

Just the latest example of cops being dicks...

Way to serve and protect. That PASSENGER who had MAYBE one drink really was a danger to society.

Truthfully, Starling was being pretty damn responsible. Sober driver. No drinking and driving, and no alcohol on his person.

Embarrassment from the police department on this one.

who gives a shit. he wasn't driving, and he didn't get into a car with someone who was drinking....he's rich and deserves to throw back a few cold ones.

they need to lower the drinking age to 18 anyways. Everyone drinks when they go off the college anyways. If you can fight in a war, you should be able to drink. 3 years doesn't make a damn bit of difference and shit like MIP's are just a waste of tax payer's dollars.
