The Padres took 2 of 3 against the Sox this year. I feel partly responsible for this.

Sox were 77-0 when leading after 8 innnings.
Sox went in during rain delay and watched Rays come back from 7-0 down. Then came into dugout after loss to watch Longoria hit the game winner. I couldn't have written this and I wanted the Sox to suffer as much as possible.

First time since 1953 the Yankees blew a 7 run lead in 8th inning or later.
Adrian Gonzalez on Rays after Rays beat them earlier during their comback run "The guys on that (Tampa Bay) side want to make a big deal of winning these couple of games and making it closer in the wild card. At the end of the day, we're going to win the wild card or the division."

The pink-hat attitude of the Florida fans has long been known. Whether it's the Rays, the Marlins, or the Dolphins, Florida has the same "the weather's too nice and no one's actually FROM here so who cares" attitude that CA has. But part of the problem in FL is also that the Rays play in St. Petersburg, which is a pain in the ass to get to from Tampa; if they'd built their own nice stadium on the Tampa side of town, they'd be doing a lot better.

Can't really say much about Papelbon, he's been great for a long time and it's not his fault the rest of the team sucks balls. Crawford, meh, he was overpaid and he underproduced but at least he's young enough to maybe make up for this year. Lackey, on the other hand, needs to be drawn and quartered. But even there I don't really blame him: it's not his fault the Sox overpaid him grossly and put faith where they shouldn't. For all the talk about how smart Theo Epstein is, he's made some horrible decisions, as has Sox ownership (starting with the Daisuke Matsuzaka debacle, followed by the money they threw at Lackey and other long-gone useless players like Bobby Jenks and Edgar Renteria and too many more to name). Despite the fact that they have more money than the Catholic church thanks to the dough they squeeze out of their fans, the Red Sox are run by idiots. It's finally come back to bite them. They are too old and inconsistent in half the spots and too young and inconsistent in the other half, and where they do have some talent it's injury-prone.
None of this, however, excuses the massive "five-dollar Filipino hooker working on a military guy who just got paid" chokejob they just pulled off. The most historic collapse in baseball history. They just lost 4 out of 6 to the freakin' Orioles. I cannot even begin to describe the amount of Suck this team perpetrated in September, given the roster they had and the money they get paid. Frankly, tonight was a perfectly symbolic ending: the Rays came back from 7 down to tie it with a clutch hit when they were down to their last out, while the Red Sox choked it away when they were down to their last out to get a win. I'm a Red Sox fan, and even I didn't want them to win, because they simply did not deserve it. Fuck them. They're going right where they deserve to go: home. Go Rays.

Incredible baseball night, we may never see another one like it. I mean, Dan Johnson with two strikes on him? Again, really? And then Longoria, the clutchest baseball player alive, putting it all together.
Just loved seeing the Red Sox and their fans go down in such epic fashion.

Check out this hilariously awesome story written from last January:
http://www.nesn.com/2011/01/2011-red-sox-will-challenge-1927-yankees-for-title-of-greatest-team-in-major-league-history.html
The 2011 Red Sox possess all the pieces to have a season for the ages. If everything falls into place and the breaks go their way, they could do more than set records and become champions. They could do more than take their place on Immortality Peak and end up being mentioned in the same sentence as legendary clubs of the past: the 1929 A’s, the epic Yankees teams of the ‘30s, the 1970 Orioles, the 1976 Reds.
The 2011 Red Sox could accomplish a feat that has never been done. They could unseat the 1927 Yankees as the greatest major league team of all time.
That would be something to celebrate.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/manager-terry-francona-expected-to-part-ways-with-red-sox-092911
Terry Francona will meet with Red Sox management on Friday morning, and the expected resolution is that he no longer will be the team’s manager, major league sources say.
While Francona’s departure is not certain, it is the likely outcome, in part because he is pressing for a resolution, sources say. He would not be fired; the Red Sox would simply decline their club options on him for 2012 and ’13.
SEPTEMBERS TO REMEMBER
Take a look at baseball's most epic pennant race swoons and surges.
At that point, Francona would be free to pursue long-term contracts with other clubs. The White Sox’s position currently is open, and Francona managed five seasons in their minor-league system in the early 1990s.
The Cubs could be another possibility for Francona once they hire a new general manager and proceed with the expected dismissal of manager Mike Quade. Francona played for the Cubs in 1986.
Francona, 52, led the Red Sox to World Series titles in 2004 and ‘07 — the franchise’s first two championships since 1918 — and took the team to the playoffs five times.
His departure would come in the wake of the Red Sox blowing a nine-game game lead in the American League wild-card race, the biggest ever held by a team in September that failed to make the playoffs.
Francona and general manager Theo Epstein met in Boston with reporters on Thursday, one day after the Red Sox were eliminated by a stunning turn of events — a walk-off loss to the Orioles and the Rays’ walk-off victory over the Yankees.
Epstein said that club officials already had been meeting to discuss how the team crumbled, and that, “nobody blames what happened in September on Tito.”
Rays celebrate
Wild final night for MLB
Morosi: Fateful night for Sox, Rays
Rays clinch on walk-off homer
Timeline of Wednesday' events
Sox collapse complete with loss
Cards KO Astros, win NL wild card
Braves fall to Phils to cap epic skid
"That would be totally irresponsible and shortsighted,” Epstein said. “As an organization we have to look at our successes and failures, and what happened in 2011 — we take full responsibility for it. All of us collectively look at it as a failure. I'm the general manager, so I take more responsibility than anybody.
“But I know we don't believe in scapegoats, particularly blaming Tito for what happened in September. We all failed collectively. We're all together in this; we've got to live with that. We're not pointing fingers at any one person in particular.”
Epstein, however, may not have the final say. Ownership could conclude that Francona, after eight seasons of leading the Red Sox, has simply run his course as manager.
Francona managed the Phillies from 1997 to 2000. He was a special assistant to the GM with the Indians in 2001, then the bench coach for the Rangers in 2002 and Athletics in ‘03 before taking over the Red Sox in ’04.

Great. Run the manager out of town, when the problem IS Epstein and management. Did Francona sign Julio Lugo? Edgar Renteria? Mike Cameron, JD Drew, Bobby Jenks, John Lackey, Daisuke Matsuzaka, et cetera, et cetera? When Bill Parcells left the Patriots, he made a comment about being asked to cook without being able to buy the groceries; with Francona, the Red Sox management bought him a bunch of junk food and now want to blame him when the meal tastes like shit. Francona has been nothing but a stand-up guy. Is he perfect? No. Is it his fault management has made shitty decisions and stuck him with crappy players who suck, get injured, or just play horribly? No. If they fire Francona, I'll heartily root for the Red Sox to suck balls from here on out.

IMO its more about Tito's health. I doubt anyone is running him out of town, if he leaves it will be his choice. I cant blame him if he wants to go, wonder if he hangs them up or if he goes back to the "other" sox.
