ice hurts. heat hurts. walking/breathing/eating. yep, it all hurts. it's in a knee that i probably screwed up years ago, just being a kid and all.

what do you, fellow planateers do to fix your pain.

i've lost 30 lbs since june, just eating healthier, watching what i eat, cutting carbs. been taking fish oil every night for 2 years (to help the heart and such).
i was given prednisone @ the doc the other day. still had pain and swelling went down. x-rays were negative, but did show small bit of arthritis in joint, but healthy bone etc. all advice has been greatly appreciated bros and hoes!!!!

About a year ago I started getting pain in all of my joints. My right shoulder was the worst, the worst pain I've ever felt. But I also had so much pain in both knees that it was hard to get up out of a chair, and both hands that made it hard to even close my hands into fists. Since I'm a musician that really sucked. My feet and hips also hurt some of the time. After numerous xrays, an MRI, and blood tests over the course of 10 months they finally determined that I have rheumatoid arthritis. That sucks, but at least they have good treatments. After a month of prednisone and methotrexate I feel almost like my old self again. The prednisone is short term until the methotrexate takes full effect.

I tried all the home remedies I could find before they finally me put on the medications, and none of it worked very well. The thing that helped the most, and it was just by accident, was drinking alkaline water. A friend recommended it for heartburn, but I noticed after drinking it my joints felt much better. The guitar player in my band, who also had arthritis pain in his hands, tried it and it helped him too. Now other than a cup of coffee in the morning it is all I drink (ok, I still drink beer on occasion). Give it a try it might help.

You can also get a cortisone shot right in the joint that can help a lot for the short term.

My mom used to use stuff like Celebrex. She said that worked pretty well.

No idea what she does now. She has fibromayalgia, not arthiritis. So not much works.

Is there a trade name for the alkaline water?

Arthritis is an 'inflammation' disease, so long term, you can do yourself some good by following an anti-inflammatory diet (google it, I like Dr. Weil as a big proponent). I have friends who've had pretty good relief from changing their diet as per above, and then taking about 6 fish oil caps a day, they claim the fish oil 'lubricates' their achy joints - I don't have this particular malady, but I try to pay attention when someone has a good cheap fix for anything that might hit me someday.

Is there a trade name for the alkaline water?

There are several brands available at health food stores and places like Whole Foods. My favorite is Essentia, which has a PH of 9.5.

http://www.essentiawater.com/

Here in Hawaii you can get another brand (I can't think of the name right now) at 7-11 that has a PH of 9. Any bottled water with a PH of 8.0 or higher will do.

You can also spend a lot of money on a Kangen water filter, but I don't have that kind of money.

What I use, so I don't have to buy bottled water all the time, is use a portable filter made by Diamond Tree called the Gratitude. It is about the size of a thermos. You fill it with water and wait 20 minutes. Almost everyone I work with has one.

Fish oil didn't help my arthritis, but it did lower my triglycerides so it was still a good thing to do.

I don't know your specific situation but weight loss and exercise can help. Swimming and weight lifting should be a good combination. If you don't use the muscles your problems will only get worse.

Physical therapy can help. The proper exercise designed specifically to strengthen the joint muscles for arthritis does help. The wrong exercise can make it worse. Swimming is good, but weight lifting could be bad unless it is well designed. I went twice a week for a month and had some good results. Then you have to keep up with the exercises afterward.

I second this notion. It'll do the same thing for you (may work even better) as all the other crap out there and you can simply add butter or oil into your regular meals that you cook and you're set.

Get an Xray done. They can see if your bone on bone or have signs of osteoarthritis. I thought I had arthritis in my knee but end up being a torn meniscus in my knee. My knee pain was off and on for about a year or so. Then it started bothering everyday. Tear was getting larger. I went to a sports medicine doc where he did an Xray, joints looked good, he ordered an MRI and end up finding the tear.

I wondered if you weren't referring to the Kangen water system. We had a presentation on that recently, and they brought us water for a couple weeks.
You are right, I think they wanted over $4k for the system.

I've got a shoulder that gives me fits. I take Meloxicam every day. Trade name is Mobic. It is great, and it is the type of anti-inflamitory drug that doesn't jack with your stomach. I highly recommend it. It is an Rx, so you will have to see doc first.

dont know whats wrong with me, but i have been having some pretty bad pain in my wrist here lately. went to the doc and they scheduled an x-ray, everything came back fine, but the pain is still there and wont go away, now its starting to move towards my thumb too. any way i move my wrist it hurts, i have a wrist brace to try to help it, but it doesnt really help.

all i know if i sure as hell hope that i dont have arthritis. i injured my left wrist golfing back in 2004 and hasnt really bothered me until here recently, so i dont have a clue to what the problem could be.
