So we're the #42 best sports city, but the #1 best tailgating/stadium experience in the NFL according to some publications?

Is Ann Arbor really that close to Detroit...if that is case, shouldn't Lawerence, Columbia, and Springfield be considered with KC? This list is a joke.

And KC is a much better sports town the MPLS/St. Paul.

There is more to the term "sports" than NFL tailgating.

vailpass, I lived in MPLS/STPaul for almost ten years, and there are almost as many Wisconsin and Packer fans there as there are Gopher and Vikings fans. While they do love their Vikings, I would put the passion KC has for the Chiefs significantly ahead of their support of the Vikes. Just my opinion.

Yeah MSP is very nice, I spent a summer in uptown years ago. Strong music and art scene, great bars and restaurants. Top-notch school system.
I was more thinking how many does KC NHL draw? College sports? Baseball?

NHL would be in favor of MPLS, no doubt. Once they got a team back, they are rabid about the Wild. College Sports...the gophers languished in football attendance the years I lived there, they would put 30-40 thousand in the metrodome on a good Saturday. Attendance for football has gone up though since they got their new stadium..but it only hold 50,000, and the football team is very, very bad, so I don't know if they will be able to keep attendence up.

College BBall does okay, although the barn does not have a very large capacity. College Hockey actually is actually the second leading revenue generator for the Gophers, and college hockey in the state overall is followed closer than a lot of other sports.

Baseball was about even till the Twins starting winning in the last 6-7 years. Plus they have a new ball park too. If the Royals were to win for a 6-7 period at the rate the Twins have, I think the Royals would beat them in attendance.

There are a couple pro hockey guys that live kind of out where I do. All last year they were praying to God their team would not be sold to Winnipeg because they said it was such a shit hole especially compared to where they are now.

Yeah but you'd think our love and tradition for our football team would make us a little better "sports city". Especially considering how our team has been mediocre at best, and how many times we've sold that stadium out over the years. I'm not saying we should be top 10 or anything, but I think 42 is too low.

Also consider our city hosts Big 12 championship games.

Whoever wrote this, has an axe to grind with KC. He must still have the red ass over the Kings moving to Sacramento and must be a hockey lover.

ROFL, there are at least 15 ranked ahead of KC that are an utter joke.

Columbus? Memphis? Orlando? Ok City? Salt Lake? Anaheim? Raleigh-Durham?

This article is a fucking joke.

Anybody that has Miami and Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg anywhere near the top 30, let alone the top 10, is a joke. Those cities have by far the worst fans in baseball and bottom 5-10 fans in football.

WHAT??!!?? Bullshit!

Don't they know that [Insert local city here] has [Insert local sports attribute that brings pride] that makes [Insert name of higher ranking city that you know little about here] look like a town full of pussy idiots. What they hell do they know? There's no way that [Insert name of higher ranking city that you know little about here] is better than [Insert local city here]. This must have been created by a [Insert name of higher ranking city that you know little about here] fan. What a joke..

A ranking of best sports cities should measure the fans' support of the teams.

A ranking of most successful sports cities should measure the actual, you know, success.

Mixing the two makes little sense. Miami might be the worst sports city in North America.

It's more than just championships.

Sporting News’ Best Sports Cities rankings, which look at the 12 months from summer 2010 to summer 2011, are based on point values assigned to:

various categories, including but not limited to, won-lost records, postseason appearances, applicable power ratings, number of teams and attendance.

These two statements don't go together. 3 of 5 categories all have to do with winning, so really its nothing more than winning. It also doesn't state if attendance is tied to market size.

Ya... the Rays get like 3000 people to come to their games until they make the playoffs. The Buccaneers were #31 in average attendance last year and the Lightning were 18th. Tampa is hardly a sports city.
