View Full Version : Football Rant: why can't the NFL wait 15 more minutes to start the late games?

I hate watching a whole game and then when it is coming down to the wire, the late games are starting. It really sucks when it is your team in the late game because then you are left with the decision of turning off a game you have been watching right at the crucial moment or missing the beginning of your game.

Just missed Lewis' interception due to this horseshit.

Alot of late games do start at 3:15

Then they start running into the prime time lineups too much.

Agreed... this is horseshit

Then just start SNF half an hour later. Problem solved.

Record the late game and start it when you're ready. You'll catch up pretty quickly fast forwarding through commercials.

Yeah, except for they show all the scores and updates all over every single channel. So if you're watching the end of one of the early games, you will know the Chiefs score anyway.

DUDE

I was thinking THE SAME THING when I was at a sports bar watching the games...

I was like...really?

In today's NFL...we can't just start these games at 3:30?

Something must be done. I was irritated I missed the pick 6, as well...saw the replay across the bar on a in game look in...but still irritated.

dude we're talking about being at a sports bar...or not being in the local market...they finish out the early games before they cut into the late games

at least for me, I am not talking about Sunday Ticket...

and you know if you're at a big sports bar they are going to finish out all of the games for all of the paying customers watching their teams before they cut to the Chiefs...I had to watch Detroit finish out before they switched to KC for me

College seems to do it so much better. Sure they have the standard 11am, 2:30pm, and 7pm starts, but also have 2pm, 3pm, 6pm, and 8pm start times. Not to mention the fact that pretty much all the games are on TV without charging $350.

NFL scheduling is pretty asinine – they have 15 games on a Sunday, so they put 11 of them at noon.

Agreed. Some stupid minor league game between the Dolphins and the Tebows went into overtime and the sports bar wouldn't turn any TVs onto the big Kansas City-Oakland game until we could see which team would end up 2-14 and which team would end up 1-15. I ended up missing a third of the first quarter.

No need to adjust the times.

Agree 100%. I actually turned it over just in time to see the Lewis pick 6. It was close though.

This is precisely why. Why change to accommodate fans whenever they'll pay networks to have the capability of watching them?

What is this technology you speak of, good sir? Starting and stopping games you say? Never heard of it

DRU's logic is flawed for anyone out of the market...

it was like pulling teeth to get a Chiefs game on in Dallas country on Sunday...even though I was there at 1:30 before any Cowboys fan and I had already spent $50 in booze...(that was my selling point and it worked)

Rain Man
10-25-2011, 11:07 AM
Frankly, I'm shocked and disappointed that anyone wouldn't voluntarily turn it onto the Chiefs game no matter what was happening in the early games. If the Chiefs were the late game and they were 3-12 playing another 3-12 team and both starting quarterbacks were out, I'd still watch their opening kickoff over the end of a triple overtime game between two 15-0 teams that starred Johnny Unitas and Barry Sanders.

at no point is there ever 11 games on at noon...

during bye weeks it is either 6 or 7...

non bye weeks it is 8

I'm quite ok with that format...

I do wish they'd move the afternoon games back to 3:15/3:30 instead of 3:05/3:15 (minimum)

in a passing league games are longer and longer every year

Just looking at my gambling threads.

Week 2 = 10 noon games
Week 4 = 9 noon games

All the rest non-bye weeks are 8 games (week 1 had 8, but there was also a Thursday night and 2 Monday night games).

It shouldn't have mattered this past week since CBS didn't have the doubleheader games.

That's probably the norm, but if you have more teams playing in the Mountain or Pacific time zones, they have to adjust.

Week 5 (bye week) had 8 noon games and only 3 late games.

gotcha.

I just remember setting up the TV's at a bar every morning when the bar only had 6 satellites...

had to get the local games on two tv's and find a way to strategically get the other 6 non-market games on the other tv's...

that bar is fucked when there is more than 8 games...
