Matt Millen Says The Chiefs Can't Run The Football

The NFL Network crew talked about the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers game on Monday Night Football and I wanted to share this neat exchange between Sterling Sharpe and Matt Millen.

Sharpe: "I like Kansas City winning this football game because the strength of the Knasas City Chiefs football team now is their passing game with their wide receivers."

Millen: "It really is because they can't run the football right now."

RELATED: Kansas City Chiefs are coming off their best two-game rushing total of the year and rank 7th in the NFL in rushing yards.

He's right. Especially short yardage. It's been a problem the last two years. Battle is an upgrade over Jones though.

Matt Millen can't draft.

I know stats can lie but the Chiefs are 7th in the league in rushing. OH and they are 30th in passing. Seems like Millen and Sharpe are living in opposite world.

No need to read anything football related by Matt Millen...

I really wish Al Davis had given the reigns to Millen before he croaked.

You didn't get the memo of being opposite day did you. Me either.

Battle definitely improved the running game. Jones I think is done after this year IMO. Battle, McClain, and a healthy Charles next year with some sprinkling of McCluster should put us back on top in 2012. This year I think we just need to focus on Battle and McCluster with McClain picking up short yardage duty.

I think so too. I think their passing game can open up space for the run though, and with San Diego's problems defending the pass this year (29th in sacks, 21st in completion percentage, 21st in opposing QB rating, 15th in TDs, 12th in INTs), and as well as their overall defensive weakness, I expect a decent run total by the end of the game.

Meh. I like Sterling. And the teams he picks usually win. Seems like the guy studies his X's & O's more than any other talking head. Hell, he picked us to beat the Raiders Last week, and IIRC, he also picked us to beat Min and IND.

And he's right about the passing game being the strength of this team now because of the WR's.

What I find funny is that almost everytime he says that, he mentions the WR's and NOT Cassel as to why the passing game is the strength of this team now.

That further proves he knows wtf he's talking about.

I agree with this but if you don't have a QB that's gonna get them the ball it really doesn't matter how much of a strength the WR are.

Matt Millen huh?

I think id trust a Pee Wee Herman football take over anything Millen has to say.

I agree, but think we'll draft a bruiser late. Some pretty good big backs have been taken in late rounds lately.

I don't know what the stats show, but IMO, KC's offense has been at its best when they run 3 WRs and let Cassel operate in the short passing game. Not screens which the team cannot execute properly for some reason. This seems to open the running game a little. Battle should be getting the touches not Jones.

I have no idea how Matt Millen still has a job doing anything even remotely related to football, and that has nothing to do with the OP.

Jones was done last year. Unfortunately they keep paying him and playing him.

Considering we have 1 rushing TD in our first 6 games, and it came from a defensive back, I can't really argue too much. We've been getting better recently though.
