It should be a no brainer that McCluster should get sweeps/screens/crosses and never run inside. But the Chiefs constantly run him inside and then they started pitching the ball out to Battle... It's like wtf?

If the Chiefs had a QB that could threaten every part of the field McClusters game would open up, but because we don't they can just sit on the short options.

I disagree. He's shown good shiftiness for a guy his size, terrific vision, and he's had to work for a lot of extra yards. And his big first down today was more than earned.

I view him as slow who can truck some guys once he gets a full head of steam...I feel like he has so/so vision and, while not a bad thing, hesitates to run on instinct because he's worried about holding on to the ball and not fumbling...

I don't think he's any long term answer but he's definitely filled in nicely, can definitely fill the "Thomas Jones" role next year...and can definitely be a solid #3 back on our team...

I think we need to have Charles + a compliment (someone in the draft)/Battle and McCluster (3rd down back/gimmick player) for next year...

Kid always runs hard, Seems to find open lanes to run through and is always falling forward. Definitely needs more carries (distributed evenly throughout the game). When he produces...so does this offense.

The guy has not had a "fumbler" label until you guys started pasting it on him this pre-season when the whole team was freakish.

He WILL fumble one of these days like all RBs do, and we won't hear the end of it here.

Arenas is a better returner too but he was limping last night so apparently DMC got the call.DMC up the middle is stupid. It can only work perhaps once a game if he has successfully been used the right way beforehand. By that I mean if he has been sent to the edge or used as a receiver off the backfield. If we feed a D that kind of DMC enough times they might fall for one up the middle that he might break.

He's probably of the the most upright runners I've ever seen.
I don't know about that. It seems that when he hits a whole he takes quite a bit of a lean.

Kid always runs hard, Seems to find open lanes to run through and is always falling forward. Definitely needs more carries (distributed evenly throughout the game). When he produces...so does this offense.Probably 65% of his carries were less than 3 yards. Had Thomas Jones turned in an identical performance, he'd be getting flamed.

At this point I think we have no choice but to continue and increase Battle's work load, but I can't agree that he was lifting the offense. Our total lack of a running game is the only reason SD was able to hang around in that game. He made two clutch runs to make the game winning FG shorter. Other than that, he was pretty invisible.

And the funny thing was, several of those runs were to the outside. Not typical of what you'd expect for Battle runs. I remember wondering why we hadn't run to the outside more. Of course, when we tried it with Jones in OT it was a disaster.

We seemed to do much better on the edges ... off tackle, as opposed to between the tackles. We kept trying to run straight ahead, though.

I don't really understand that idea. Perhaps the Sandy Vagos were perceived to be weak up the middle ... something for which they compensated and we didn't adjust?

He is a good backup, I think. Like the National Guard Reserves. Give him some training and an opportunity and he can blow stuff up just like the big boys.

Actually, Battle has shown flashes of really good running ability. He has some speed and is certainly tough. Our problem last night seemed to be that we were stuck on trying to run up the gut. Once we started rushing off-tackle, things improved significantly.
