To clarify the header - this is how the first 10 drives started.

1. Battle - run, no gain.
2. Dex - 4 yards and a fumble*.
3. Battle - run, 2 yards.
4. Battle - run, 2 yards.
5. Dex - run, 2 yards.
6. Jones - run, 2 yards.
7. Jones - run, 3 yards.
8. Battle - run, 1 yard.
9. PASS - long pass right sideline dropped by Baldwin.
10. Dex - run, minus 4 yards.

That's a 1 yard average per rush, 1 turnover and 1 incomplete pass.

That's why the offense sputtered most of the game. Semi-frequent penalties on 2nd down and late play calling didn't help either.

Is this first down of each of the first 10 possessions?

And I have been getting flamed for questioning Haley's ability to coach.

So. Fucking. Predictable.

Yes, how each drive starts.

That looks like 10 plays and not 10 possessions but the point is clear, our run game sucks until the pass opens it up or the D gets worn down.

ok, that makes more sense. Passing on first down is for Arena teams. That's not real football.

Its flabbergasting how much more effective our ground game is with Jamaal. He's amazing.

The Chargers let be known before the game. That their game plan was to stop the run & make Cassel beat them. I assume though, that's every teams game plan

You would think by the 8th or 9th 1st down run for 1-2 yards we would begin to see that we aren't smashing down their throats on 1st...

What was with those lame flea flickers by the way...was it me or were they both botched by Battle?

Haven't seen it yet, but according to Kevin Harlan and Boomer Esiason, Battle made a smart play on the first one, because a defender got between he and Cassel.

I don't think Battle was at fault on either. SD had people in the backfield immediately.

Nobody can turn a 1st & 10 into a 2nd & 8 quite like the Dex/Battle/Jones tandem.

I still blame it on muir ... he should retire already

Interesting...I didn't really get a great look at it to be honest.

If he had tried to flip it back to Cassel, at best Cassel would have gotten murdered.

Effect of Baldwin's atomic bombs on our running game?

Hopefully get the safeties to back off.

If you're only getting 1-2 yards on average, it's foolish not to take shots down the field via play-action to a big bodied receiver who can leap up on a jump ball.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I was shooting for neutral, because the other thing that could have happened was a fumble returned for a TD.
