I'm not even going to read this thread. I'm just going to make the safe assumption that less than 10% of the songs in this thread are actually metal songs.

I'm also going to assume, for my own sanity, that everyone posting in this thread knows that they aren't posting metal songs; that they know "power ballad" is a rock term and that they knew what OP meant.

It was a power ballad before there was a definition. Slow tempo focusing on lyrics and power chords that builds to a crescendo. They did it first.

Do they still tour? I always kind of liked that band.

50 to 100 shows a year just here and there. Not any actual tour. They played with Jackyl here in town one night.

Well, it's not "The Battle of New Orleans". I can tell you that much.

I just figured that one was a joke... if not... heh.

There are a couple I saw that I questioned being actual power ballads but I wasn't going to split hairs over it. Kiss' "Beth" isn't really... it's a ballad but not any "power" in the production... but a rock band does it so people think of it that way I suppose. Brian Adams "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)" is more of a power ballad than Beth. Heck the Saigon Kick song I posted barely fits but it does have that 80's hair band power production sound in the chorus and I like it so I went with it.

I'm just glad I haven't seen Poison "Every stupid ****ing Rose Has It's Torn." I was ready to neg rep that pos haha.

I saw them with Poison and Def Leppard at the Sprint Center last year and I'm pretty sure that they sang it.

I've seen them perform it live several times. Frank is right though that they hated the song, but when it took on a life of its own they started to play it reluctantly.

One I like that few may have heard of is a song by Helix called Deep Cuts the Knife. I would also put out there that the heaviest love song of all is Black Sabbath's Symptom of the Universe, and it's also considered by many to be the first thrash song. The change up at the end is not thrash-ish (?) but it firmly establishes the entire tune as a love song.
